During the City of Henderson Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting last Thursday, the city approved to amend the Regional Zoning Ordinance to allow “Wineries” as a use permitted on appeal in the FAR (Forestry, Agriculture, Residential) District unanimously on the first and second reading.
The city’s role in this is more for safety and zoning, not regulation. It was said that in regard to licensing, quantity sold, wine records where the wine went and etc. will be handled by the Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
The aldermen also approved the adoption of a resolution authorizing an application for a FY2022 Community Development Block Grant for a Fire Department Pumper. The total project cost will be $424,738 with local matching funds of $63,711.
It was said that normally the city uses the CDBG grants for wastewater, but it is not allowed this time due to the TDEC money they will be receiving in order to work on the wastewater systems.
The purchase a new plotter/scanner for the GIS Department was also approved at a cost of $5,575.
During other business, Henderson Police Chief Gary Davidson mentioned his department is closely monitoring their fuel costs due to the continual rise of gas prices. Therefore, they are figuring out ways to stay within the fuel budget such as not leaving cars running idly.
Henderson Mayor Bobby King said that he plans to sit with Davidson and other department heads and try to figure out ways to cut fuel consumption the rest of the budget year.
