The Henderson Mayor and Board of Aldermen came to the decision to hire Chip Sherrod of law office John E. Talbott and Associates as Henderson Judge during their Dec. 10 meeting.
Sherrod will be starting the position at the beginning of 2021 following the retirement of current judge Eddy Patterson.
The Chester County High School Future Farmers of America members came to the board to ask for permission to have chickens (25 hens) at the Garden Shed on the high school campus for their program.
The city has an ordinance against chickens being in city limits, however, the board approved the FFA’s request. A special section will be added to the ordinance for the high school’s use of having the chickens for educational purposes. Those will be the only chickens in city limits. The ordinance still is in place otherwise.
The chickens will be kept in a chicken coop voluntarily built by the First Farmer’s Co-op.
The board did mention though that if at any point of time that there are not any chickens on the school property for 24 months, the school/ FFA will have to revisit the board on the case.
During other business, the Henderson Police Department announced that they will be donating a 2011 Ford Crowned Victoria to the CCHS Auto Club.
The board also approved the city to adopt a measure to extend the two weeks of sick leave into February 2021 due to COVID-19 since the federal policy ends at the end of 2020.

The Henderson board approved for the high school to have 25 hens. This will be allowed through a special section of the current chicken ordinance allowing for having the chickens only on school property for educational purposes.
