Hello from Enville! I hope you all are having a good week. The weather is gorgeous. The cooler temperatures and a nice breeze make it wonderful to sit outside in the mornings and drink our coffee. We love watching our hummingbirds. We have about 15 or so. We try to count them, but that is impossible. We have our other birds that come to our feeders. We have all kinds, but the red cardinals are my favorite; they are so pretty!
Milledgeville Community Church will have revival services Aug. 18-20. There will be a meal at 6 p.m. Sunday. Service time is 7 p.m. nightly.

Have a blessed week everyone!

Hello to everyone! I hope you had a wonderful week. It is a blessing to be a part of your life one more time. For this is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it! There is something I have not told you in a long time. THANK YOU for taking time out to read the Chester County Independent. Like I said before, it may not be the New York Times, The Washington Post or The Jackson Sun, but it is ours, and I am very thankful for it. It is our little hometown newspaper that keeps us notified about what is happening in the surrounding area. Keep up the great work, Chester County Independent!
Monday Aug. 12, was the first day of class for all seven counties of Head Start: Chester, Decatur, Hardin, Hardeman, Haywood, Henderson and McNairy. There is nothing quite like your first day of school. The excitement and anticipation for a three or four-year-old transitioning from their mother arms to their teacher’s classroom is amazing. Meeting other little people that look like them and having to share everything in that big room can be an adjustment! WOW! It can also be devastating to both children and parents.
Over 200 children started a new adventure of their life. I do not know if the tears from the parents were joyful because their child was in school or because the child was not at home for five hours. I can remember the first day of school for all of my children; each one was so different, and before you know it, your child will move on to Elementary, Middle, Junior High, High School and then College. The emotions you feel now do not change. I was sad and happy all at the same time. We pray the Head Start staff and parents will have a blessed and safe school year.
I thank the Lord for our TEACHERS here in Chester County! They are more than conquerors! Who is a teacher? A teacher is a member of the profession which gives service to the society in the closest, clearest and extreme way. A teacher is also the most important factor of the educational system. Teaching is known to be a time-consuming and challenging profession in times like these! Teacher Appreciation Week is usually celebrated in the first full week of May. However, the City of Henderson is taking this time to let our Teachers know how much we appreciate them. As a whole, let us do something nice for a teacher this week! Thank you for teaching our children. I will always let our educators know how much we appreciate them. Words can not say enough!
I am very sad about the passing of one of the teachers whom I have known from the time I was in the ninth grade at Chester County High School in 1968, during the time of segregation, and Mrs. Regina made me feel welcomed in a new place. She did not make me feel like the questions that I had were not important. I was a child then, and now I am a grown woman. Children will remember their teachers and how they were treated by them. To the family of Mrs. Regina East, on behalf of the City of Henderson, our condolences go to you. We are thinking of you during this painful time and are praying for you! You know the dash between the day you are born and the day the Lord calls you home means something. The DASH of Mrs. East is something that words can not explain it! Mrs. East was a woman with many hats.
On Aug. 10, the North Henderson Church of Christ ladies went to Milan to fellowship with the Sitka’s ladies. It was the Ladies Program. Guess what their theme was? “A Woman of Many Hats.” Wear the Hat that God directs you to proudly. The speaker was Sister Debbie Kea. It was a wonderful program, and it was a blessing!
Happy belated birthday to Junior Shields, 8/2; James Long, 8/5; Aislim Polk, 8/11; and KeShon Griggs, 8/15. May the Lord bless you with many more birthdays.
Remember in your prayers to pray for health for Janice Barham, Charles Brooks, Lillian Cawthon, Valerie Griggs, and so many others. Please continue to pray for our community leaders, government officials, law enforcement, the U.S.A., the President, first responders, teachers and healthcare workers.
Remember to patronize our local businesses here in town. Let us try to support our own as much as we can.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: “Do not be afraid of them; the Lord your God Himself will fight for you.” – Deuteronomy 3:22 NIV
If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements, and things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Text or call me at 608-6132 and leave your message.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Our local governmental meetings are in need of more community support. If you care about Chester County, please pay attention to what is taking place in our county and come out and show your interest.
We appreciate all our members at the center and would love for more of our community to get involved. With more help, we could plan more events for our community. Membership renewal dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining and they are due for this year currently. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. Call Ann Moore at 608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at 879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our County and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better.
We need to pray for students, staff and teachers as school is back in full swing. It is definitely time for Americans to wake up and realize that VIOLENCE is not the answer to our issues. Americans should be getting on their knees more and repenting and requesting God’s help in any and all decisions that are being made in our lives. Imagine how wonderful life would be if people were more respectable toward each other and our Country. I encourage everyone to get out and vote. Chester County residents need to show what they stand for. I do believe that Christians should definitely speak out by standing up for their beliefs.
Our Election Commission could use some volunteers to work the November election for this year, and it will require some training. We are requesting anyone with interest to call the Election Commission office at 989-4039. We are just looking for ways to help with budget cuts for our County. Non-paid workers will help with this matter.

There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges, but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Enjoy what time you have with your creator, your family and friends. Please be in prayer for our local government, federal government, law enforcement, school staff, teachers and the listed individuals of John Moore, Mike Lott, Linda Hopper, Cindy Kilzer, Carolyn Higgins, Quinten Johnson, Connie Dunn, Donna Doyle, Norma Sue Kitchen, Jerry Fletcher, Janice Schultz, Bobbie Bethune, Mark Hall, Curtis Morrison, Renee Jordan, Ruby Hannah, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Lee Trice, Mike Tedford, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of Shirley Nelson, Regina East, John Hardee, Belinda Taylor, Kerry Atkins and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
I am always looking for noteworthy news to share in this column. Please send to gaylescox1977@gmail.com or text me at 608-2857.
As always, I am wishing a very blessed week to all you readers. Until next time!

Hello to all from this little corner of the world. Sunday was a beautiful, sunny day. The skies were blue with white clouds. The temperature was 81 degrees. It is supposed to warm up as we enter this next week with temperatures mostly in the low 90’s and a slight chance of rain on and off. The humidity will also be back. Summer is beginning to wind down, and some are looking forward to fall. I love fall and all the colors along with crisp, cool mornings. I am enjoying watching our birds as I write. The yellow finches are lovely. We saw a huge hawk before church this morning. He was perched on a shepherd’s rod in the backyard. He was a beauty, but everything better hide when it is out. I wish we could have gotten a picture. We also mowed Saturday…again. It looks so pretty finished. I did help some this time and did okay with a pain reliever. I am still going to PT. It has helped, and who knows? At some point it may leave, but if I can take one or two pain relievers and avoid a surgery, I will. I am very watchful about falls. I hope each of you are doing well or recuperating from your ailments. Sometimes, life is hard, but God is Good.
The sermon Sunday at Friendship Baptist Church was about those who have fallen out of church (Acts 20:7-12). We should have an intense desire to hear the Word of God. It is a privilege to assemble and worship together. What did Jesus think of going to church? If it was important to Him, it should be important to us. If people thought as much about the Word and Jesus as they do politics, our lives here would improve significantly! Focus on Him when you get up and go to bed. He is the reason we even had another day. He is the One that makes All the difference! I love and appreciate every day, but it will be beyond words how wonderful it will be to be in the glory of Him! We go to church to be with like-minded believers of Christ. We go to hear and learn of His works and life. Disciples taught others many years ago, and others gathered to listen. If you are not attending church, I hope you pray about returning to church. It makes me a better person. I have something to strive for because I love Him! God bless.
I know everyone does not take the paper, and others read what is interesting to them. I (we) get very little feedback from our readers, but we continue to try and write something for our community. I have been told others enjoy reading my article, and I appreciate it very much! This is time I devote to the paper and those that read it. It takes a little time, but occasional feedback helps keep me motivated. I appreciate you!
I have watched bits and pieces of the Olympics and am very proud of our athletes and their accomplishments.
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones.
Happy birthday to Justin Bishop, Vance Connor and Pat Connor, 8-11; Teresa McCaskill and Colby King, 8-15; Braxton Ellis, Brittany Gordon, Kevin Davidson and Darren Hatch, 8-16; and Jason Johnson, 8-17.

Please continue to remember these in prayer: Wesley Bates, Paula Berry, Marie Bishop, Judy Bray, Regina Brooks, Georgia Burkeen, J.T. and Jeannette Butler, Jackie Chambers, Rickey Clayton, Pat and Paul Coleman, Joie Freeman, Jennifer Gateley, Carolyn Goff, Bro. Glen and Judy Harris, LaDawn Hayes, Danny Hodges, Brenda Hopper, Larry Johnson, Eva and Alvin Jones, Mark Lenow, Justin Lindsay, Doris McKinney, Martha Mainord, Brianne Locke Matheney, Deana Morris, Darryl Newsom, Jim Newsom, Glenda and David Parchman, Julia Parchman, James Parrish, Beth Plunk, Trudy Powers, Pam Priddy, Ridge Ray, Todd Rencher, Donald Rowlett, Mollie Russell, Billy Joe Seaton, Brenda Seaton, Nona Seaton, Dyke Sells, Cathy Sisson, Jacob Thomas, Kevin Thurman, Lee Trice, Tony Tucker, Cammi Walls and Mike Young. Also, pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and first responders.
“He Asks So Little And Gives So Much” by Helen Steiner Rice – “What must I do to ensure peace of mind/Is the answer I’m seeking too hard to find/How can I know what God wants me to be/How can I tell what’s expected of me/Where can I go for guidance and aid/To help me correct the errors I’ve made/The answer is found in doing three things/And great is the gladness that doing them brings/‘Do justice’—‘Love kindness’—‘Walk humbly with God’/For with these three things as your rule and your rod/All things worth having are yours to achieve/If you follow God’s words and have faith to believe.”
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home.
Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
