Hello to everyone! First things first, let us thank the Lord for allowing us to see another week! For this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!
I hope you had a great week. It is a blessing to be a part of your life one more time. I would like to say, “THANK YOU” for taking time out of your day to read the Chester County Independent. It may not be the biggest, but it is ours so be thankful for it. It is our little hometown newspaper that keeps us notified about what is happening in the surrounding area. Keep up the great work!
School has officially started for FHU students. The City of Henderson would like to welcome all of you to the City of Henderson. Have a blessed school year.

No one can prepare you for a loss; it comes like a swift wind, but take comfort in knowing that your loved one is now resting in Paradise. Our deepest condolences go to the family of Mrs. Helen Howard. On Saturday, Aug. 17, a beautiful service was held for her at the Oak Grove Church of Christ. Mrs. Howard leaves on this earth a host of family and friends. Our prayers are with you. She will never be forgotten.
Thought for today: “Oh, Lord God! You Yourself made the heavens and earth by Your great power and with Your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for you!”
Continue to pray for all bereaved families everywhere, the families, friends and loved ones you know. I pray everyone will have a fun and happy week. Please be safe and take all precautions. Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Hello from Enville! Hopefully, everyone is having a great week. We are having a few days with highs in the 80’s and lows in the upper 50’s to 60’s with a nice breeze. The weather man says to not get too used to it because the 90’s are on their way back, but we will take cooler temperatures anytime we get them!
The Enville Wild Goose Shindig is upon us! It will be this Saturday from 4-8 p.m. at the community center. There will be barbecue pork, chicken, bologna, hamburgers and hotdogs, a cakewalk, a silent auction, 50/50 drawing and entertainment by Lakelin Lemmings. If you have not heard this young lady sing, you will be amazed by her. This event is sponsored by the Enville Community Club and the Enville Volunteer Fire Department. Please come out and enjoy your evening with us and support these good causes!
Our own Enville young lady, Brielle Dennis-Grant, received the honor of making MSU’s spring 2024 President’s List. Students on the Mississippi State President’s List achieved a 3.80 or better grade-point average, based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of coursework with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C. Brielle was the recipient of the Enville Community Club scholarship in 2022. She is the daughter of Jamie and Trixie Grant and granddaughter of John and Anna Dennis from Enville. We are very proud of you, Brielle!
The Chester County Football season has officially begun. Our grandson Blake is starting his last year of football. It is hard to believe. We love watching him and his team. We will surely miss football! Danny and I are always proud of our grandchildren and their sports!
Happy birthday wishes go to Christopher Timmer on Aug. 25, Maxine Grisham and Allen Nichols on Aug. 26, Theodore Wade Weber on Aug. 27 and Charlotte Canaday on Aug. 28. Happy anniversary to Jeff and Lisa Finley on Aug. 26. We hope you all enjoy your special day!

Our local governmental meetings are in need of more community support. If you care about Chester County, please pay attention to what is taking place in our county and come out and show your interest.
We appreciate all our members at the center and would love for more of our community to get involved. With more help, we could plan more events for our community. Membership renewal dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining and they are due for this year currently. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. Call Ann Moore at 608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at 879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our county and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better.
This year will be an election year for the history books. Everyone should be mindful of what is going on in our country and care enough to help make a difference. The only way you have a say is to get out and vote in November. I challenge all of Chester County to vote. Chester County residents need to show what they stand for. I do believe that Christians should definitely speak out by standing up for their beliefs.
Montezuma sends out Happy Birthday wishes to Andy Thomas on Aug. 26, Reba Croom on Aug. 28 and Raven Croom on Aug. 29. Montezuma sends out Happy Anniversary wishes to Clayton and Linda Skinner on Aug. 23.
There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges, but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Enjoy what time you have with your creator, your family and friends. Please be in prayer for our local government, federal government, law enforcement, school staff, teachers and the listed individuals of John Moore, Mike Lott, Linda Hopper, Cindy Kilzer, Quinten Johnson, Connie Dunn, Donna Doyle, Norma Sue Kitchen, Jerry Fletcher, Janice Schultz, Bobbie Bethune, Mark Hall, Curtis Morrison, Renee Jordan, Ruby Hannah, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Lee Trice, Mike Tedford, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of Kenny Atkins, Bobby Bush, James Kneller and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
I am always looking for noteworthy news to share in this column. Please send to gaylescox1977@gmail.com or text me at 608-2857.
As always, I am wishing a very blessed week to all you readers. Until next time!

Hello to all from this little corner of the world. The skies were a beautiful medium blue with white clouds on Sunday. There was a slight breeze in the afternoon. It was 91 degrees but felt like 97. The temperature is supposed to be in the 80’s this week and the 90’s the next week with very little chance of rain. I know God will send the rain when he thinks it is best. Pray for the farmers who need rain.
Condolences to those who have lost loved ones.
I enjoyed the sermon Sunday morning at Friendship Baptist Church. It was about grumbling and complaining. I know sometimes some sermons will step on toes, but they need to be relayed to us. Food for thought – grumbling is complaining in a bad tempered way. Are we genuinely content in what the Lord provides us? If it rains, we complain. If it does not rain, we complain. There are many ifs, but all complaining is directed at God who controls ALL circumstances. Complaining is a sin, and we are all sinners. It seems more times than not others have some disappointment rather than praise. We must try and rewire our thoughts to praise God in ALL things. I will be content in every circumstance. Complaining hinders our witness of the Lord. Complaints are missionaries of misery. Some of the bible references are Numbers 14:1-4 and 20-23, James 5:9, Romans 8:28, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and Philippians 2:14-15. The sermon is available on Facebook under our church name. Give God thanks every day for blessings seen and unseen.
Happy birthday to Braelyn Ellis and Paige Barber, 8-18; Emily Seaton and April Zimmerle, 8-20; Jennifer Johnson, Austyn Newman, Dianne Jordan and Julia Parchman, 8-22; Dwain Seaton, 8-23; and Nick Priddy and Kendyl Davidson, 8-24.
Please continue to remember these in prayer – Wesley Bates, Paula Berry, Marie Bishop, Judy Bray, Regina Brooks, Georgia Burkeen, J.T. and Jeannette Butler, Jackie Chambers, Rickey Clayton, Pat and Paul Coleman, Joie Freeman, Jennifer Gateley, Carolyn Goff, Bro. Glen and Judy Harris, Joey Harris, LaDawn Hayes, Danny Hodges, Brenda Hopper, Larry Johnson, Eva Jones, Mark Lenow, Justin Lindsay, Doris McKinney, Martha Mainord, Brianne Locke Matheney, Deana Morris, Darryl Newsom, Jim Newsom, Glenda Parchman, Julia Parchman, James Parrish, Beth Plunk, Trudy Powers, Pam Priddy, Ridge Ray, Todd Rencher, Donald Rowlett, Mollie Russell, Brenda Seaton, Nona Seaton, Dyke Sells, Cathy Sisson, Jacob Thomas, Kevin Thurman, Lee Trice, Tony Tucker, Cammi Walls and Mike Young. Also, pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and first responders.
“Joy for the Heart” by Helen Steiner Rice – “Only what we give away/Enriches us from day to day/For not in getting but in giving/Is found the lasting joy of living/For no one ever had a part/In sharing treasures of the heart/Who did not feel the impact of/the magic mystery of God’s love/And love alone can make us kind/And give us joy and peace of mind/So live with joy unselfishly/And you’ll be blessed abundantly.”
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home. Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
