Hello from Enville! I hope everyone is having a great week! Sorry for not having my column last week. My family and I were in PCB, Fla. We had an awesome vacation. We were on the beach every day, all day. The weather was sunny, and the ocean breeze was great. We ate lots of seafood. We had lots of fun and family time!
Happy belated birthday wishes to Kelli Frank on June 7, Miranda Weeks and Sarah Canaday on June 10, Addilyn Clair Finley on June 12 and Danny Keen on June 13. We hope you all enjoyed your special day!
Enville congratulates our own Austin Vest for being named UT Martin Chancellor’s Honor Roll, High Honors. We are proud of you, Austin! We want to congratulate our Enville students for Chester County Honor graduates – Charlotte Canaday, Sydney Cherry and Lexi Harwell. We are proud of you all!
Flag Day is Friday, June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by the resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The Flag Resolution stated, “That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.” (Wikipedia.org). On June 14, honor our national flag and fly it high!
Father’s Day is June 16. Honor your father with lunch, gifts, a card or just your presence. This will mean so much to him. It is a day to let him know how much you appreciate him and all he has done for you in your life.
Happy birthday wishes to Janice Maness on June 15, Shane Johnston on June 16, Mary Lou Avent on June 17, David Milford on June 19 and Josh Trammell on June 20. Happy anniversary to Richard and Melissa Maness on June 16. We hope you all enjoy your special day!
Please pray for the families of Clint Murley and Royce Barker and continue prayers for Lisa Bishop, Robert and Linda Johnson, Agnes and Robert Smith, Mary Lou Avent, Mary Lee Guyon, Tera O’Neal, Harold and Janice Maness, Emily Freeman, Ashley Pugh, Shirley Hampton, Della Mixon, Kaye Killingsworth, Anita Needler, Ann Pugh, Janice Massengill Strickland, Tim and Tabitha Hampton, Jeff Finley, Justin Godsey, James Vinson, Jimmy Robertson, Rick Ooley, Mike Frank, Mike Pugh, Glenn Butts, Doyle Bishop, Mike Finley, Lee Trice, our firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, healthcare workers, military and, as always, each other.
If you want to rent the community center, call Pat Cates at (731) 688-5125, or if you have news to share, call me at (731) 608-3058. Have a blessed week everyone!

Another week ahead. I hear it is going to be hot so remember those safety tips when you are outside. I wrote this on Monday, and the day was so nice.
First off this week, I want to thank STEMC workers that came out to Deanburg in the middle of the night to get our power back on after the tornado we had that took down so many trees. I should have already mentioned this.
Also, thanks to Todd Brown and the county workers for moving trees out of the road. We had several down across the road on Pleasant Springs Rd. This hard work was very much appreciated.
Prayer requests continue for Woodie Deming, Tristen Jones and Joyce Stewart. Remember our first responders, our law enforcement and all of our county leaders.
I heard our sheriff, Blair Weaver, is retiring, but I do not know when. I will get a jump on it so I will not forget it and wish him a very happy retirement. You have served Chester County well, and we appreciate you keeping us safe.
Happy birthday to Linda Robertson on June 14. I hope you have a marvelous birthday!
Happy Father’s Day this Sunday to all our fathers. It is a special day for you and your children to get together and have a good time.
Our devotion this week: “‘I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.’ (NLT) Mark 11:24
“Stand firm on the promise that God will respond to our prayers. He is able to restore our joy when life does all it can to snatch it away from us. God responds to a humble and searching heart. As we seek Him, He begins to provide what we need no matter what our circumstances look like. He is a good father and cares for us!” From Daily Bible Devotion app.
Quote: “Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving, we get stronger and more resilient.” — Steve Maraboli
God bless each of you. Keep smiling and love as Jesus loves us.

We need more community involvement for our center and would like to invite people to join in. Renewal dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. We appreciate all our members and would like to have more events if we can get enough help to do so. Call Ann Moore at (731)-608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at (731)-879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our county and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better.
There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges, but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Enjoy what time you have with your creator, your family and your friends. Please pray for our local government, the County Commission Budget Committee as they start preparing the budget for the 2024-25, the federal government, law enforcement, school staff and teachers and the listed individuals of Connie Dunn, Donna Doyle, Norma Sue Kitchen, Jerry Fletcher, Janice Schultz, Bobbie Bethune, Jimmy Smith, Mark Hall, Curtis Morrison, Renee Jordan, Wesley Whitman, Ruby Hannah, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Lee Trice, Patricia Ledford, Mike Tedford, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Lisa Bishop, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of Clint Murley, Janie Roland, Paul Edward Harris, Randal Ross and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
I am always looking for noteworthy news to share in this column. Please send to gaylescox1977@gmail.com or text me at 608-2857.
As always, I am wishing a very blessed week to all you readers. Until next time!

JoAnn Greer

I hope everyone had a good weekend. For those of you that have not heard already, our voting poll location has been moved back to the Sweetlips Community Center. I know I heard many “Thank goodness,” comments. Folks worked many hours in different areas to make this happen. Thanks also to all those that showed up at the meeting to voice their opinions.
Sweetlips Baptist Church welcomes everyone to the upcoming revival. Services begin at 7 p.m. nightly June 17-21. Pastor Howard Goolsby will be holding the services.
Our heartfelt sympathies go to the family and friends of Mr. Clint Murley.
Please remember all those who are sick or in the hospital. We all stand in need of prayers on occasion.
My family and our friends celebrated our grandson Mason Greer for his first birthday. It was a firefighter theme and was so cute. The little ones seem to have enjoyed themselves.

Thought of the week: God does not give you want you can handle; God helps you handle what you are given.
Have a blessed week!

Greetings from the City. Every week, it is always a blessing to be with you. You already know why. One reason is because I love you, and the other reason is because this is the day the lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it! You may be reading this paper in your home, at work, in another state or overseas while serving the country; wherever you are, THANK YOU for taking time out to read about what is going on in Henderson/Chester County!
Just a reminder Father’s Day is on Sunday, June 16. It is time now to start looking for something special for your father, step-father or a father figure. Yes, I still miss my dad, Mr. Parnell Brown; it has been 43 years since I was able to tell him how much I love you! I was a daddy’s girl! I missed the long conversations we had. One statement that daddy would always end his conversation with me was, “Daughter, don’t take any wooden nickels!” Matter of fact, daddy told all seven of his children to do your best, hold you head up, walk tall and to not take any wooden nickels! The City of Henderson hopes every Father has a Happy Father’s Day!
Friday, June 14, is Flag Day in the United States. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. Flag Day is a day for honoring the flag and what it stands for. It is the symbol of our great nation. It has flown in good times and bad. It has flown during peace time and war time. It is an enduring symbol of freedom expressed all around the world. Do not forget on June 14 there will be a Flag Retirement Ceremony at beginning at 7 p.m. the north end of Gene Record Memorial Park, 600 N. Church Avenue, Henderson. Hope to see you there.
On June 12, we observed Women Veterans Day in the United States, a date chosen to mark the anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act. The date is not recognized nationally but is recognized by some states. The general goal of this day is to honor the work of women in the United States Armed Forces and recognize the unique challenges that they have faced. The date was first recognized when the New York State Assembly declared June 12, 2008, to be Women Veterans’ Recognition Day. On Sunday, June 9, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Jackson at the VFW Post 6496 had a wonderful celebration program to recognize 50 Women Veterans. The City of Henderson would like to say, “Thank YOU,” to the DAR for recognizing and giving honor to the Women Veterans who have served our country!
Happy Birthday to the U.S. Army, retired and on activity duty. On June 14, you celebrated your 250th birthday. “This, we‘ll Defend.” – the Army’s Motto.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK AND A HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

Hello to all from this little corner of the world. The sun was shining on Sunday, and the sky was blue-gray with large, white-puffy clouds. There was a slight breeze noted. We were able to get the yard (farm) mowed again and de-weeded. Many others were mowing, too. The grass is so pretty when it is freshly mowed, plus the smell of mowed grass is nice. Next week, temperatures are supposed to climb, and less rain is expected. Please remember to wear sunscreen to help prevent skin cancer. Also, stay hydrated and drink plenty of water or a sports drink. The summer is upon us.
I hope you have all had a good week. I have enjoyed our week but am having some back issues. I had a spinal fusion in 2011 with titanium; thank the Lord. I have been able to continue on but now have balance issues that happen at will. I bet some of you know what I am talking about. Unfortunately, I was mowing as usual and turned the mower off to get off. The right foot decided to do its own thing, and next thing I knew, I flew over the mower. It did hurt my left knee, but God fixed me up. A week ago, I was getting off the couch, and there it went again; my body had a mind of its own, and I flew over the coffee table. Now, I have a huge bruise and a couple more, and my back is not happy. I think to myself, “Why didn’t you think about that before you and the rest of my body took over?” Might as well have some comedy sometime, right? Well, I was on the heating pad Sunday, taking anti-inflammatory medicine and praying that God patches me up again. I sure feel for those who fall and especially ones that live alone. I would have a life alert or something. Please move slower and be aware of your movements; although, I thought I was. Enjoy your week.
Father’s Day is Sunday, June 16. If you are blessed to still have your dad, please call or visit him. Go fishing or play golf together; make memories. You do not have to spend a full day, and they do not expect it. Mine is gone now, and I sure do miss him, even little memories like him spraying us with a water hose or holding both our hands and swinging us round and round. Fun days and fun memories. The rest of the time, he was working hard on the railroad to provide for his family. Thank you, daddy, for everything you did. Sadly, sometimes I think dads get less thanks for the things they do.
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones.
Friendship Baptist Church will have VBS from 6-8:30 pm. June 17-20. The theme will be “Diving into Friendship with God.” We look forward to seeing you there.
Happy birthday to Marie Bishop, 6-14.
Please continue to remember these in prayer: Dixie Arnold, Wesley Bates, Paula Berry, Marie Bishop, Judy Bray, J.T. and Jeannette Butler, Jackie Chambers, Rickey Clayton, Pat and Paul Coleman, Boyd Cupples, Joie Freeman, Jennifer Gateley, Bro. Glen and Judy Harris, Johnny Hays, LaDawn Hayes, Danny Hodges, Brenda Hopper, Larry Johnson, Eva and Alvin Jones, Melissa Jones, Shirley Kendrick, Justin Lindsay, Doris McKinney, Martha Mainord, Brianne Locke Matheney, Deana Morris, Darryl Newsom, Jim Newsom, Julia Parchman, Beth Plunk, Trudy Powers, MaryAnn Priddy, Pam Priddy, Ridge Ray, Mollie Russell, Dyke Sells, Cathy Sisson, Jacob Thomas, Kevin Thurman, Lee Trice, Tony Tucker, Cammi Walls, Adam Wise, Natalie Wray and Mike Young. Also, pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and first respond
“Children Need a Daddy” by Nicholas Gordon – “Children need a Daddy/For many, many things/Like holding them high off the ground/Where the sunlight sings!/Like being the deep music/That tells them all is right/When they awaken frantic/with the terrors of the night/Like being the great mountain/That rises in their hearts/And shows them how they might get home/When all else falls apart/Like giving them the love/That is their sea and air/So diving deep or soaring high/They’ll always find him there.”
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home. Until next week, Happy Trails!
