Greetings to the People of Chester County everywhere! This is a new week and a new day. I give thanks to the Lord for being with you in your home, on your job or wherever you find time to read the paper. It is wonderful to have a newspaper in the city. It is not the New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, etc. It is the Chester County Independent that has traveled in different parts of the world. I want you to know because of this small paper we are part of each other’s day-to-day life!
How was your week? I hope and pray it was a great one. It was a week of celebration for our mothers! I hope today is a good day for you as well. If you are having a bad day for whatever reason, just remember you have the power to turn it around to make it better because this is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it! You and I can do all things through Christ who strengthens us!
The City would like to say congratulations to our Chester County High School Class of 2024! Just remember, class of 2024, you do not have to be great at something to start, but you have to start to be great at something! The class of 2024 has shown that belief in themselves! You have made history, and the future is in your hands. Just remember, when all is lost, the future still stands and is waiting for you.
City of Henderson, please pray for the protection of our young adults and teenagers as they travel down this road called life!
To the family of Mr. Donald Ervin Rouse, we are saddened to hear about the recent loss of a father, grandfather, and a friend. I remember Mr. Rouse so very well; he was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He always had a smile on his face and something funny to say. There were times at the meeting when those young men would tell their war time stories. It was a time when they came together and enjoyed one another, and I enjoyed listening to their stories! Mr. Rouse (Don) will be missed but not forgotten. The City of Henderson sends our deepest condolences, and we are praying for you!
A Happy Birthday shout out goes to everyone that had a birthday this week. It is a blessing, and we pray the Lord will bless all of you with many more. Continue to pray for people that are in the hospitals, for the ones that are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families, for the men and women that are serving our country, for the incarcerated and for bereaved families everywhere.
As I leave you, please stay safe and stay protected. Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as possible.
If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements and things happening in the City, please call or text 608-6132 and leave your message.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Praying that all you moms in Chester County had a wonderful Mother’s Day, and I apologize for the late wishes! At times, when things get very hectic for me, it is hard for my brain to concept going ahead in time on things as I write this. It has been hectic for me for the past month or so, as I am trying to get things out in a timely manner, but I am human and do make mistakes. Older people used to say that “time flies as you get older,” and now, I certainly know what they meant by it. Time is flying past us! Enjoy what time you have with your creator, your family and friends.
Congratulations to the graduating class of 2024. I am sure that many of you are getting your plans for going off to college, joining the military or just getting into the workforce. Just read Jeremiah 29:11 and let that verse be your guide throughout life.
Montezuma sends out Happy Birthday wishes to Jaret Hornbeak (my son) on May 17, Felica Hathcock on May 22 and Heather Wells on May 23. Montezuma sends out Happy Anniversary wishes to Jerry and Kathy Emerson on May 19.
We need more community involvement for our center and would like to invite people to join in. Renewal dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. We appreciate all our members and would like to have more events if we can get enough help to do so. Call Ann Moore at 608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at 879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our county and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better.
There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges, but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Please pray for our local government, County Commission Budget Committee as they start preparing the budget for 2024-2025, federal government, law enforcement, school staff, teachers and the listed individuals of Mike Frank, Norma Sue Kitchen, Jerry Fletcher, Janice Schultz, Bobbie Bethune, Jimmy Smith, Mark Hall, Curtis Morrison, Donna Doyle, Renee Jordan, Wesley Whitman, Ruby Hannah, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Lee Trice, Patricia Ledford, Mike Tedford, Clint Murley, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Lisa Bishop, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of Dora Doles, Kelly Barrett White, Pattie Horner Hearn and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
I am always looking for noteworthy news to share in this column. Please send to gaylescox1977@gmail.com or text me at 608-2857. As always, I am wishing a very blessed week to all you readers. Until next time!

Hello from Enville! I hope you all are enjoying your week; last weekend was beautiful. It was perfect for all the decorations and any outdoor activities you may have had. I hope all moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day. I hope you all got to spend the day with family. Our family was together, and we all had a delicious barbeque lunch at Shane and Tanya’s, complete with homemade vanilla and strawberry ice cream. We had a great time!
The Enville Volunteer Fire Department says a BIG THANK YOU to all who came out in support of their barbeque fundraiser on Saturday. They had a good turnout, and the weather was perfect. Thanks to all who made it a success. The proceeds go to purchase needed equipment. Please support your local fire departments. We hope we never need them, but if we do, they are always there, putting their lives on the line to help those in need. These firefighters give so much of their time training, meeting and maintaining their trucks and fire stations, and we truly appreciate each one of you!
We attended the Chester County High School graduation on Monday night to watch some special young ladies and gentlemen walk across the stage and receive their diplomas. We congratulate all the graduates and wish you all the best for your future! Our Enville Community Club presented a scholarship to Sydney Cherry this year. Congratulations to Sydney and best wishes in furthering her education!
Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May, which is May 18, 2024. Thanks to President Harry S. Truman, it’s a day to pay tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces. President Truman led the effort to establish a holiday in order for citizens to unite and honor our military heroes for their patriotic service in support of the United States of America. (https://veteran.com/armed-forces) Thanks to all!
Decorations on the third Sunday in May in the Enville area are Johnson Cemetery and Cabo Cemetery. Please support the cemeteries of your choice!
Happy birthday wishes go to Hunter Harwell on May 20, Casey O’Neal on May 21, Linda Phillips Johnson and Misty Fortune on May 22 and Pat Cates on May 23. Happy anniversary to Matt and Leslie Harris on May 21. We hope you all enjoy your special day!
Please pray for the family of Ann Spencer and continue prayers for Lisa Bishop, Robert and Linda Johnson, Tera O’Neal, Harold and Janice Maness, Agnes and Robert Smith, Mary Lee Guyon, Anita Needler, Emily Freeman, Ashley Pugh, Janice Massengill Strickland, Ann Pugh, Shirley Hampton, Della Mixon, Kaye Killingsworth, Dot Smith, Tim and Tabitha Hampton, Justin Godsey, James Vinson, Jimmy Robertson, Rick Ooley, Mike Pugh, Mike Frank, Jeff Finley, Doyle Bishop, Mike Finley, Lee Trice, Clint Murley, those who have lost loved ones, our firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, healthcare workers, military, schools, our county and country and, as always, each other.

Have a blessed week everyone!

Hello to all from this little corner of the world. Saturday was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, the sky was blue with white clouds and there was a nice breeze noted. The flowers we potted are very pretty, and the birds are happy. I mowed the yard Saturday, and we have a zero turn. It makes me think of the Scrambler at the fair – LOL. My sister and I were raised to help in the yard; come to think of it, we hung out clothes and got them in and washed and dried dishes, but I do not remember anything else we did inside. We mowed, raked, swept and bagged grass. I bet my daddy was glad when we were old enough to help. Now, I think it makes us better people, and we are able to help or do things that need doing. We were just being taught responsibility. That seems to be lacking a lot nowadays.
We went to Memory Garden and put flowers on Nic’s grave. It is a very sad thing, but I keep telling myself everyday to focus on the blessing. “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” – Psalm 30:5. It is hard to imagine being happy again, but it is true if you hold to God’s unchanging hand. It is not overnight, and we are strengthened through our trials and tribulations. I am thankful for our other son and his family, for my sister being free of cancer and enjoying her family and for a third surprise due in June. God is SO good. That is truly JOY! Happy Mother’s Day to all! We also went to the Red Door, which is close to Ada’s on the same side. She has lots of pretty things to choose from. There is good variety and a nice hometown feel. Go check out her wares, you will not be disappointed. On the way back home, in front of Estes Church of Christ, we saw their beautiful roses, and God has added to it with yellow wildflowers sprinkled around each bush. I hope someone gets a picture of this while it is showing out!
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones.
Happy birthday to William Acred, 5-12; Dyke Sells and Parker Westbrook, 5-13; Sarah McLemore and Landon Butler, 5-15; Morgan Williams, 5-16; Misti Ellis and Logan Butler, 5-17; and Carlis McGee, Blaire Barber and Tina Williams, 5-18. Happy Anniversary to Jan and Steve Priddy, 5-14; Jenifer and Wayne Stevens, 5-17; and Marla and Damon Newman, 5-18.
Please continue to remember these in prayer – Dixie Arnold, Wesley Bates, Paula Berry, Marie Bishop, Judy Bray, Jeannette Butler, Jackie Chambers, Rickey Clayton, Pat and Paul Coleman, Boyd Cupples, Joie Freeman, Jennifer Gateley, Kyle Goethals, Bro. “Words From Heaven” by Diane Ranker Riesen – “Okay, my dear, now stop the tears/I know you’ll miss me through the years/But, if I know you’ll be okay/then this is where I want to stay/I wish I could reach through the clouds/to kiss your cheek and say out loud/‘Fear not at all, for I have won/God blessed me for the good I’ve done’/Yes, I have you on earth I know/and when it’s time for you to go/You’ll understand as you draw close/that ‘this’ is where you’ll love the most/I watch you all through every day/and pray for joy in every way/I just don’t want a saddened face/just put my love back in it’s place/I’ve always felt that life was best/when all my families lives were blessed/So live each day the way I taught/for I have found what I have sought.”
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home. Until next week, Happy Trails to You.
