Hello to everyone! It is a new day and a new week. For this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in! The chill of fall is in the air. We have had some nice cool days. This is my favorite time of the year. I hope you had a wonderful week. For me and my household, this was one of the best weekends ever. Why? Because I just love being with my family! We laugh, we play, we have meals together, we talk, we disagree and we cry, and my little LaWanna is still making sure we get our exercise in; our children remind us we are not getting any younger, and we must keep moving and get our checkups. She reminded me that I have a birthday coming soon on Oct. 26! I do have more years behind me than in front of me! Yes! I am going to get all of my checkups.
Everyone remember that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is a time to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. Remember to get your yearly checkup.
October is also National Disability Employment Awareness month and Eye Injury Prevention month, which is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of eye safety and preventing eye injuries; ladies, for some of us, this is also Menopause Awareness month that shines a light on the experiences of women going through menopause, promoting education, support, and empowerment. Oct. 16 is Boss’s Day! It is next Wednesday. If you are working and have a boss, do something nice for him or her. It has traditionally been a day for employees to thank their bosses for being kind and fair throughout the year. If you have a boss like that, let them know how much you appreciate them.
We recently had our Chester County BBQ festival. We had a wonderful time. There were a lot of people that I met there who were from out of state. I enjoyed having the people stop by the tent and talk! We made new friends and kept the old because one is silver and the other is gold! A big SHOUT OUT to Chester County Chamber of Commerce! Great job!
I do have some sad news. My dear friend, Mrs. Lorene Overway, passed away on Sept. 14. She is the wife of the late Mr. Bill Overway. Lisa, their daughter, called me on Saturday to let us know. Many of you may remember this family. Please pray for Lisa and the grandson Alex. Mrs. Lorene will be missed! She and Mr. Bill are together now! No more lonely days or nights. Our condolences to the family!
I was reading my little devotion, and I wanted to share it with you. “When we deeply, genuinely believe we’re forgiven then we begin to respond from a new place. We have appreciation for the One who has canceled our debts, and we long to serve out of JOY! Today we can freely ‘approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.’” (Hebrews 4:16 NIV). This lets me know we do not have to be worrying about tomorrow because the Lord is going to take care of us today.
This is a reminder for us who are 65 and older to mark your calendar for the 2024 fall Medicare Open Enrollment Period for 2025 Medicare coverage. This starts Oct. 15 and lasts until Dec. 7. During this time, all Medicare recipients can change their Medicare health plan and prescription drug coverage for 2025. Information on the 2025 plan is available. You can call 1-800-MEDICARE or visit www.medicare.gov for plan information.
On the prayer list this week: Mrs. Ethel Croom is in the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. Please pray for her to be strong and healthy. Pray for her husband as well. Others on the prayer list are Ms. Linda Harris, Dr. Jerry Woods family, Laura Walker and Latisha Robinson. Please pray for our sisters and brothers over in Israel. So many people have lost their loved ones. Continue to pray for the United States of America, the first responders who are helping the hurricane victims in all of the states that were affected.
Do not forget to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can. If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements, and things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Call me or text at 608-6132 HAVE A BLESSED WEEK! LOVE YOU ALL!!

Hello to all from this little corner of the world. I am behind in writing, and it was dark outside as I was writing this column. Sunday was a beautiful day, and the forecast ahead is great to me. The highs will be mostly in the 70’s with minimal chance of rain. I hope and pray all those affected east of us can experience the same, especially after the devastation that has occurred from Hurricane Helene. We are seeing fewer birds, but they are still around.
I am glad the weather was wonderful for the Chester County BBQ Festival. I am sure many enjoyed it. I saw several posts on entertainment on Facebook. There are a lot of talented people. Thanks to those who post; not everyone is able to attend. I hope the Chamber reached its expected goal.
The schools are going to have fall break Oct. 11-18. I imagine most are ready for a little break. Some will go off for a few days, and others will just enjoy being off. Next will be Thanksgiving break, Nov. 25-29 and then winter break Dec. 20 until Jan. 6. When I went to school, we were on a six week schedule. We did not get so many days out, but we were out ALL summer. Yay for the old days! I would choose summer any time. We did not go back until the day after Labor Day, but times change, and we must change with them. Enjoy each day of life – whatever it brings as the years fly by.
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones.
We had a group from Friendship Baptist that went to the Farmhouse Country Cafeteria in Lexington. The buffet was very good and had a lot of choices. It was clean and friendly, and we will go back.
Friendship Baptist Church will have a fall fellowship at 5:30 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 12. We will have bouncy houses, games, hayride, cornhole and face painting. We will have chili, hotdogs, hot chocolate and coffee plus desserts. We invite you to come and enjoy socializing with us.
There will be a bridal shower for Chase Priddy and Abby McWhorter Oct. 13 from 2-4 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Friendship Baptist Church. Chase is in the military and is the grandson of MaryAnn and Jimmy Priddy. His dad is Doug Priddy.
Happy birthday to Krystal Chalk, 10-6; Martha Mainord and Chloe Williams, 10-8; Ashleigh Barham, 10-9; Stephanie Hatch, 10-10; and Paula Hinson and Jonathan Ray, 10-12.

“We live in Christ, and our future is secure! Earthly trials may leave us feeling gloomy and pessimistic, yet, we have hope because these trials are temporary. Our future rests in heaven with our Lord and Savior. We have surrendered our lives to Him, and our inheritance in heaven is secure. No matter how gloomy our days become, we will rejoice in the future and our inheritance as children of God.” – A Seed a Day

People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home. Until next week, Happy Trails to You.

Monday, Oct. 14 is Columbus Day. Columbus Day is a national holiday in many countries of the Americas and elsewhere and is a federal holiday in the United States. Columbus Day officially celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas. Columbus went ashore at Guanahani, an island in the Bahamas, on Oct.12, 1492 (Wikipedia). Bank and post office employees, as well as all federal employees, will have the day off from work, so I hope you all enjoy it.
National Boss Day is Oct. 16. This is a day to recognize the hardworking boss that oversees the workplace and let them know you appreciate them. Some employees celebrate Boss’s Day by sending a “National Boss Day” card.
Enville sends out Happy Birthday wishes to Ricky Holder and Wayne Poupard on Oct. 14, July Pugh on Oct. 15, Robert Edward Smith on Oct. 16 and Madison O’Neal and Sherry Webb on Oct. 17. Happy Anniversary to Kelley and April Collins on Oct. 14. We hope you all enjoy your special day. Also, the U.S. Navy’s Birthday is Oct. 13. Thank Mark Needler for this reminder!
Please pray for Robert and Linda Johnson, Tera O’Neal, Harold and Janice Maness, Emily Freeman, Robert and Agnes Smith, Mary Lee Guyon, Mary Lou Avent, Ann Pugh, Shirley Hampton, Della Mixon, Kaye Killingsworth, Bonnie Johnson, Mildred Goodwin, Shirley Bishop, Janice Massengill Strickland, James Vinson, Jimmy Robertson, Jeff Finley, Rick Ooley, Mike Pugh, Mike Finley, Glenn Butts, Lee Trice, Justin Godsey, all who have lost loved ones, our firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, healthcare workers, military, schools and school board, our county and country and, as always, each other.
Have a blessed week everyone!

What a great crowd there was at the BBQ Festival! Thanks to all the supporters of Chester County. The funds from this event are mainly what the Chamber of Commerce operates with throughout the year to support Chester County. The weather was great for the event.
We appreciate all our members at the center and would love for more of our community to get involved. With more help, we could plan more events for our community. Membership dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining and they are due for this current year. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. Call Ann Moore at 731-608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at 879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our county and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better.
This year will be an election year for the history books. Our local governmental meetings are in need of more community support. If you care about Chester County, please pay attention to what is taking place in our county and come out and show your interest. Everyone should be mindful of what is going on in our country and care enough to help make a difference. The only way you have a say is to get out and vote in November. I challenge all of Chester County registered voters to vote. Chester County residents need to show what they stand for. I do believe that Christians should definitely speak out by standing up for their beliefs.

There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges, but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Enjoy what time you have with your creator, your family and friends. Please be in prayer for the victims and families affected by Hurricane Helene, our local government, federal government, law enforcement, school staff, teachers and the listed individuals of Dot Smith, Mike Lott, Linda Hopper, Cindy Kilzer, Quinten Johnson, Connie Dunn, Donna Doyle, Norma Sue Kitchen, Jerry Fletcher, Janice Schultz, Bobbie Bethune, Mark Hall, Curtis Morrison, Renee Jordan, Ruby Hannah, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Lee Trice, Mike Tedford, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of Phil Stone, Delores Faye Boyle, Debra Stanley Clayton, Robert Faulkner, Janis Plunk McCall and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
I am always looking for noteworthy news to share in this column. Please send to gaylescox1977@gmail.com or text me at 608-2857. As always, I am wishing a very blessed week to all you readers. Until next time!
