Silerton welcomes our newest resident. Bodie Allen Tucker Wilson was born Oct. 10, 2024, to Ricky and Jennifer Wilson. He weighed six pounds and two ounces. His brother and sister are really enjoying his presence.
Kendall Wilson returned to Silerton, after spending her fall vacation in Rose Hill, Kan., with family and friends.
The Wilson family is looking forward to having Dixie Chastain back for a short visit over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Ramsey Kate Naylor celebrated her ninth birthday party at Chickasaw State Park with family and friends on Oct. 1. Ramsey Kate is the daughter of Cody and Brittni Naylor. She received many gifts, and everyone had a great time. Everyone enjoyed hamburgers and hotdogs. For dessert, Grandma Judy made her famous banana pudding, and Aunt Sara made her a heart cake.
Ann Hinson attended the wedding of her granddaughter, Talia Hinson, on Saturday, Oct. 12. Talia and Brayden Wires exchanged their vows at the Southern Hotel in Jackson. They will be making their home in Brighton.
Saturday night seemed to be hayride night with perfect weather. Silerton Baptist Church hosted a hayride followed by a bonfire with roasting hotdogs and making s’mores. Everyone enjoyed the laughs and fellowship. The Alfred Ewing family attended a hayride at their church, Faith Baptist in Selmer. The children especially enjoyed the barrel train and the bouncy jump. They also roasted hotdogs and made s’mores. The adults enjoyed playing corn hole. Lee and Frances Stack had a great time at the Seventh Day Adventist church in Bethel Springs. Their church had a big bonfire with roasting of hotdogs.
A Silerton town reunion potluck was held on Oct. 19 at Chickasaw State Park. About 37 current and former Silerton residents attended. There was much reminiscing and catching-up done. They hope that the event will be held again next year. A big thank you goes to Joyce Naylor, Vickie Rush and all the others for putting it together.
Here is a reminder that Piney Grove Baptist Church will be having their annual barbecue on Saturday evening, Oct. 26. If you are interested in bringing something, a side dish or dessert would be appreciated. There will be a gathering of those who wish to see the cooking of the whole hog start the day before.
My son, William X. Fry, who helped us move and set up house, has gone off to Oklahoma. While that puts him that much further from civilization, we are pleased that he will be with his sister Jillian and cousins. On Dec. 7, Jillian will visit Tennessee to run in the St. Jude Memphis Marathon, their largest single-day fundraiser. Jillian enjoys jogging and was in charge of fund raising for St. Jude while completing her Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Hello from Enville! I hope you all are enjoying your week. The weather is very seasonal for fall, cool in the mornings and warm in the afternoons. Trying to dress for the whole day is tricky. Speaking of tricky, there are several trunk or treats about to happen really soon. At our church, Sanford Hill Baptist, we will have Treat Street beginning at 6 p.m. on Halloween night. I have seen many other events and dates on social media, so get your ghosts and goblins dressed up and go to a safe place to Trick or Treat and fill their pumpkins with lots of candy. I pray everyone will have a fun and safe Halloween!
School is back in session after a Fall Break. I hope students and teachers are back in the swing of things and are ready to teach and learn. Thanksgiving Break will be before we know it!
Happy birthday wishes go to Phyllis Russom and Larry Gilbert on Oct. 26, Tanya Harwell on Oct. 28, Malcolm Weeks and Tom Harwell on Oct. 29. We hope you all enjoy your special day!
Please pray for Robert and Linda Johnson, Robert Smith, Tera O’Neal, Harold and Janice Maness, Mary Lee Guyon, Mary Lou Avent, Ann Pugh, Shirley Bishop, Emily Freeman, Shirley Hampton, Della Mixon, Kaye Killingsworth, Bonnie Johnson, Mildred Goodwin, Janice Massengill Strickland, James Vinson, Jimmy Robertson, Jeff Finley, Glenn Butts, Rick Ooley, Mike Finley, Lee Trice, Justin Godsey, our firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, healthcare workers, military, schools and school board, our county and country, all who have lost loved ones and, as always, each other.
If you have upcoming events or news, call me at 608-3058, or if you want to rent the community center, call Pat Cates at 688-5125 or 315-8062.
I hope everyone has a great and blessed week!
We are fast approaching Halloween, and I hope all you parents have your children’s costumes together and are looking for safe ways for them to Trick-or-Treat. I know that our church, Liberty Grove Baptist, will be hosting Trunk or Treat on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
We appreciate all our members at the center and would love for more of our community to get involved. With more help, we could plan more events for our community. Membership dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining, and they are due for this current year. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. Call Ann Moore at 608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at 879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our county and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better.
This year will be an election year for the history books. Our local governmental meetings are in need of more community support. If you care about Chester County, please pay attention to what is taking place in our county and come out and show your interest. Everyone should be mindful of what is going on in our country and care enough to help make a difference. The only way you have a say is to get out and vote in November. I challenge all of Chester County registered voters to vote. Chester County residents need to show what they stand for. I do believe that Christians should definitely speak out by standing up for their beliefs.
Montezuma sends out Happy Birthday wishes to Charles Whitman on Oct. 23, Rickey Murley and Dossie Talley, Jr. on Oct. 25, Brodie Capooth on Oct. 27, Janeane Moore on Oct. 29, Rebecca Morris on Oct. 30 and Billy Cherry on Oct. 31.
There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges, but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Enjoy what time you have with your creator, your family and friends. Please be in prayer for the victims and families affected by Hurricane Helene, our local and federal government, law enforcement, school staff, teachers and the listed individuals of Bill Phillips, Mike Lott, Linda Hopper, Cindy Kilzer, Quinten Johnson, Connie Dunn, Donna Doyle, Jerry Fletcher, Janice Schultz, Bobbie Bethune, Mark Hall, Curtis Morrison, Renee Jordan, Ruby Hannah, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Lee Trice, Mike Tedford, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of Buddy Goodman, Tom King, Derald “Geranimo” Swain, Jr. and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
