DON CLAYTON Obituary – Jan. 6, 1939 – May 22, 2023

Mr. George Donald Clayton, 84, died Monday, May 22, 2023 at his home in Henderson. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson’s, Crook Ave. Chapel with Michael Rickenbacker officiating. Burial followed in Montezuma Methodist Cemetery. The family received friends at Crook Ave. Chapel from noon-2 p.m. service time on Wednesday.
He was born in the Montezuma Community of Chester County, on Jan. 6, 1939, to the late George Rush and Lola Bee Clayton. He was their only child, but his first cousin Dennis became his little brother.
In his early years, he was a truck driver for the Cotton Gin. Later, he worked at Sealtest Dairy Products for many years. In the early 70s, he partnered with Jack Johnson and formed Johnson & Clayton Exxon where they serviced farmers, loggers and surrounding country stores with gasoline and diesel fuel. He retired in 2005 to have more time for enjoying life.
He married Stacy Nelson on Dec. 4, 1982.
He was an avid water-skier, fisherman and bird hunter. He loved his family, going to the Tennessee River and his Labradors.
He is survived by his wife, Stacy Clayton of Henderson; one daughter, Daphne (Rusty) Hunt of Henderson; a chosen daughter, Gina Smith of Lavina; one grandson, Adam Hunt; a chosen granddaughter, Destiny Morris; two great-grandsons Coady Wadley and Sladen Hunt; and a chosen brother, Dennis Miller of Henderson.
