Chester County teams prepare for their new seasons

It is the beginning of the school year so that means Chester County teams that play in the fall are about to start their seasons.
At the high school level that includes girls’ soccer, football, volleyball, cross country and golf.
For junior high, that includes girls’ soccer, softball, football and cross country.
Most teams will start their season next week starting on August 16.
The high school and junior high football teams both played in scrimmages last week.
On Thursday, August 5, the junior high faced-off against Jackson Central Merry.
The Junior Eagles’ efforts were enough to shut out their opponents 22-0 during the scrimmage.
A feat to highlight from the scrimmage, each team had 10 plays to score a touchdown, and the Junior Eagles kept JCM under 10 yards total.
JCM being a new team, CCJHS Football Head Coach Chad Hanna and his team did not know what to expect from their opponents, but that did not keep them from playing hard.
“We tell them defense comes first. You’re not gonna get a break on defense. Our defense stepped up as well, didn’t give up any points held them in check and made big plays when they needed them,” he said.
The high school’s scrimmage against First Assembly Christian School did not fair as well as the junior high’s scrimmage against JCM but they still put up some points once the offense picked up momentum. When the scrimmage was over, the Eagles were down 32-27. CCHS Football Head Coach Steve Robinson said the team focusing on his lineman and trying to find good players for the line after key lineman graduated last year.
“We’re still trying to find some linemen to step up and fill in some key roles,” he said. A lot of those kids are sophomores and never played varsity ball.”
The scrimmage helped Robinson see their progress though.
“Its good for us to see this early in the season, and see where we’re making mistakes,” he said.

Jaden Weaver runs the ball for some good yards in the CCJHS scrimmage versus Jackson Central Merry.
Anna Worthey practices soccer drills on Monday August 9.
