In a battle to the very finish, the Eagles defeated South Side in overtime last Tuesday to be named the District 12-AAA Champions! The final score was Chester County 65 and South Side 62.
This victory is huge for the Chester County High School Boys Basketball program as it may be the first time the program has won district in the school’s history.
Later in the week, they cruised past Montgomery Central in the regional quarterfinals with a score 68-51.
Their next competition on the courts was against Fairview on Tuesday. Readers will have to read the newspaper next week to hear about the results of that game.
For the CCHS Eaglettes, they were able to easily win in the region quarterfinals, too, versus Fairview, 48-22.
Then, in the semifinals on Monday against Sycamore, they were contested to advance on in the region tournament. The first three quarters were tight on the scoreboard and even into the fourth. The Eaglettes kept fighting and with the help of a three by Aly Campbell in the middle of the fourth then Jariyah Williamson getting a shot and-one, they picked up momentum to take control. This allowed them to end the game with a 17-point win, 39-22.
With the South Side Lady Hawks winning their semifinal match too, the Eaglettes and Lady Hawks will play against each other for the fourth time this year. Though the Eaglettes fell to the Lady Hawks in the district championship, they defeated South Side twice in the regular season. Therefore, the team and their fans know they have the ability to come out on top and have the greater victory and win region.
The semifinal win also allows them to automatically play Saturday in substate which has not been done since 2005 for the Eaglettes Basketball program.
“The regional semifinals… it’s been so long since we won that game,” Eaglettes Head Coach Lee Pipkin said. “That game is just a hard game to win. Just getting that win under us is going to give them confidence. Just getting to the final four of the region was a big feat for them. Going against the top seed of the other district, we knew we had our hands full… Everybody just excecuted the way they were supposed to.”
Pipkin stated that she is really enjoying this season not only because of the success they are having but also because of how fun the group of girls are.
“This has been the most fun group of girls to coach. It’s had its challenges but they have been such a joy to coach. I’ve been to the state tournament. I’ve won the state tournament. I’ve had really good teams. This may be one of the most fun groups to coach.”
Support this group of girls as they face-off against South Side to win the region championship this evening, Thursday, February 29 at 7 p.m.
