FHU Women’s soccer ends season in McKenzie

The 2023 season of Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions Soccer came to an end in the quarterfinal round of the Mid-South Conference tournament with a 10-0 loss to (RV) Bethel (Tenn.) University.

The Lady Lions (3-12-0, 0-6-0 MSC) found themselves in a hole early when the hosting Wildcats netted a goal just over five minutes into the game before adding a second goal at 5:57. Two more goals were scored in a first half where senior keeper Brooke Latham saw 21 shots and made nine saves.

The Bethel (11-2-2, 4-1-1 MSC) offense struck early again in the second half, scoring a goal 10 seconds into second frame before tacking on another at 45:42. When the dust settled, the Lady Lions saw their year end with a 10-0 loss.

In the 2023 season, FHU was led by a trio of goalscorers, with Sophia Haddad de Lima, Addison Greene, and Zoe Stom each netting five goals. Stom led the team with 13 points. Brooke Latham made 129 saves at a .600 percentage.
