Football?

Normally at this time of the year we look forward to the fall football season. After all, that is what is next. High school, college and NFL.
On the high school level our newspapers work hard about this time on the annual football section or magazine and also on finding weekly sponsors.
Most spring sports were cancelled and not much is in the plans for the summer. But if football is cancelled that will be devastating to this columnist. It will be the proverbial last straw.
I like football. Correction. I love football. The local high schools usually see large gatherings, crowds that overflow the stands and sometimes stand two or three deep along the fence. Football is the cash cow for the local schools, sometimes bringing in 80 percent of the total sports revenue.
It is the same on the college level. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will learn if there will be fall football. Some large Division I university administrations say if students are not allowed to return to campus then they will cancel football season.
Who knows what direction this COVID-19 will take? Will it vanish for good, disappear for a few months and come back, or become worse?
Will the football season be held without fans? Or at all?
All is up in the air. Can we exist without football? We will all soon find out.
What is your opinion?
Stay tuned . . . and read more newspapers.
