Former Henderson Police chief laid to rest

Former Henderson Police Chief Jerome Hurst, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, at the Henderson Health Care Center. He was 84.
Hurst, born and reared in the Woodville Community, entered the Air Force and served from 1955 to 1959.
He began his career at the police department in 1971 and served for 26 years, retiring as chief in 1997.
After retiring, he worked part-time with the security department at Freed-Hardeman University.
Current police chief Gary Davidson said, “Chief Hurst was a picture perfect officer that you would want by your side or working a call with you.”
“He was down to earth and understood what the rigors of the profession are. He was not only a mentor to me, but a true friend.”
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 26.
