Freed-Hardeman University will honor Mr. and Miss FHU 2023 Thursday, April 27, at 10:30 a.m. in Loyd Auditorium. Finalists for the title will be introduced, and the winners will be announced. Previously, faculty and staff nominated a slate of outstanding members of the senior class, and the student body selected the final eight nominees.
Mr. FHU candidates include Jon Moore, a law and politics major from Somerset, Ky., who has been a member of the FHU Lion Basketball Team, Honors College and Interclub Council, as well as vice president of SGA. He was also the inaugural president of Omega Chi social club; Johnson Ramsey, a Bible and history major from Tupelo, Miss., who has been a member of CDT, Honors College, Phi Alpha Theta, Phi Kappa Alpha and Preachers Club. He is also the associate minister for the Acton church of Christ; Chase Rowe, an accounting major from Tupelo, Miss., who has been a member of Phi Kappa Alpha social club and Delta Mu Delta; and finally, John Sadler, a biology major from Katy, Texas, who has been a class officer, a Xi Chi Delta social club officer and an Interface leader. He also participated in Makin’ Music and Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinics.
Miss FHU nominees are Brinlee Benson, an elementary education major from Ringgold, Ga., who has been an Interface leader, a member of the Homecoming court, co-president of TEACH and an officer in Sigma Rho; Katherine Crabb, an elementary education major from Meridianville, Ala., who is an all-conference player for the Lady Lion Softball Team and a member of Competitors for Christ and of Alpha Chi National Honor Society. She is also an officer in FHU’s newest social club, Omega Chi; Caroline Grisham, a kinesiology major from Corinth, Miss., who has been an Interface leader and is a member of Campus Delegate Team (CDT), Phi Kappa Alpha social club, Student Government Association (SGA) and Honors College; and finally, Brooke Roberts, a biology major from Knoxville, who is a two-time Makin’ Music hostess, a campus coordinator for Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinics and has been a member of the Sigma Rho and Phi Kappa Alpha social clubs and an Interface leader.
For more than 80 years, Freed-Hardeman has maintained this tradition of honoring exemplary students. “This time-honored custom allows the campus community to celebrate our students and those who best represent the ideals inherent in our mission,” Chris Ramey, director of alumni engagement, said.
FHU President David R. Shannon and First Lady Tracie Shannon will host a breakfast reception for the nominees and their families prior to the chapel program.
