Lady Lions volleyball adds Alabama defensive specialist

Looking to next season, head volleyball coach Amanda Bretherick has added Haley Forester to her back row. A 5-0 defensive specialist, Forester received an invitation to the Exact Sports Volleyball Camp. In 2022 and 2023, the Moody High School alumna was selected to the JV Volleyball All-County Tournament team. In addition to her work on the court, she was invited to the 2022 USSSA All-America Softball camp. With a plethora of academic awards, Forester is currently ranked second at MHS while being a member of the Beta Club, Key Club, Sigma Delta Phi Sience Honor Society, and the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. She also is a Mercer Case Scholar and was chosen as the 2023 Moody High School Student of Excellence. Forester says, “I am thrilled to say I will be joining Freed-Hardeman University in the fall to play volleyball at the next level! I am really excited to meet my teammates and build relationships that I hope will last a lifetime. Volleyball has changed my life in a lot of ways. To be able to play collegiately is a blessing! This opportunity means so much to me because not only will I get to grow athletically and spiritually, but I’ll also be getting the education I need to pursue my dreams. I fell in love with Freed the first time I stepped on campus at Maroon and Gold Day because of the welcoming environment from everyone that makes you feel at home. I can’t wait to make Freed my home for the next four years! GO LIONS!!!” Coach Bretherick remarked, “We met Haley at camp this summer and immediately resonated with her energy and love for the game. She will be a great fit for our program and we can’t wait to see what all she will accomplish in the coming years.”

Lions golf signs Goodpasture standout

While preparing for his Spring season, head coach Randall Rhodes looks to the future of Lion golf with the addition of Goodpasture Christian’s Daniel Whitman. Whitman was a medalist in the 2023 Nashville School Days tournament with a 66. He also qualified for the 2024 Tennessee State Open where he finished with 70. A three-time Region championship qualifier, Whitman was the Golden Eagle Open champion in 2022. “Daniel is a great young man and is eager to start his career as a Lion. His accomplishments as a player and a multi-sport athlete are impressive, and have prepared him for this next step,” said Coach Rhodes. “From the day he committed to play for FHU, he’s worked hard to continue growing his golf game. We’re excited about his enthusiasm, talent, and work ethic that he will bring to our program.” In addition to his prowess on the golf course, Whitman is a multi-sport athlete, helping the Cougars to a baseball state championship in 2022 and the baseball title in 2023.
Whitman says of his future, “I am really excited about the opportunity to be a part of FHU Golf, and I can’t wait to get to work.”
