
Garmelia Martin Edgar Ellis went to be with her Lord in the early morning of Aug. 20, 2023, at her residence at Charter Senior Living in Jackson.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson’s Crook Avenue Chapel with Ben Flatt officiating.
Burial followed in Grove Springs Cemetery.
The family received friends at Crook Ave. Chapel from 1-3 p.m. Saturday.
She was born in McNairy County, the Leapwood Community, the daughter of the late Lee and Odie Pugh Martin. She married James (Billie) Edgar in 1947, and they made their home across the United States.
She was employed by the Air Force in the Base Exchange while Billie served in the Air Force for 26 years. They returned to Henderson in 1980, and she was employed by Freed-Hardeman University as the school’s cashier. She was a dedicated member of the Roby Church of Christ.
She is survived by three sisters, Vonah Wood of Reagan, Cornethia Andrews of Molalla, Ore., and Retha Fanning of Grandin, Mo; four grandchildren, Steven Edgar, Marc Vogt, Stefanie Edgar and Crystal Edgar; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Harold Edgar; a daughter, Cynthia Vogt; one son, Bruce Edgar; her second husband, Gerald Ellis; five brothers, Robert, Terry, Ralph, Hugh and Harley; twp sisters, Waymon and Christine; and a grandson, Timothy Vogt.
