Gary Milton Carlton, 64, passed on Sept. 20, 2022 in his favorite place in the world, his home. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel. The family received friends at East Main Chapel from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
He was born on Dec. 26, 1957 in the Mississippi Delta and later moved to Memphis when he was a child. In Memphis, he was known to raise cain, work on anything with a motor and go as fast as possible. He later moved to Pinson when his children were young. There he spent his time riding ATVs, working on his 1964 Chevrolet C-10, “terrorizing” the neighborhood and racking up the miles on his motorcycle. He filled his kids’ life with wild memories and with the love of being outside and knowing not to do anything half way. After retiring from Steamfitters Local 614, he spent his time with his children and grandchildren, doing whatever he wanted and having the time of his life.
After his brain cancer diagnosis, he put all his energy into fighting it because anything worth doing is worth doing right. He will be missed, but his family and friends know he is gliding down the streets of heaven on his Harley, cancer free, with a smile on his face.
He is survived by the love of his life, his 2002 Heritage Softtail Harley Davidson; his two children, Cole (Andrea) Carlton and Kristen (Bryan) Jones; two grandsons, Ripkyn and Carter Jones; his three sisters, Alice Faye Turner, Cathy Gee and Wanda (Kent) Wilson; one brother, Billy Turner; and his parents, Milton and June Carlton.
