Gordon Wilkins Russell, Sr., 86, of Henderson passed away April 28, 2023 at his home. Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel with Randy Mead and JoAnn Russell Greer. Burial followed at Sweetlips Cemetery. The family received friends at East Main from 1-3 p.m. service time.
He was born Aug. 31, 1936, in Henderson, the son of the late Samuel Lonzo Russell and Addie Bell Wilkins Russell.
He attended Sweetlips School, worked the fields with his family and moved to Joliet, Ill., in 1958. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 25 years. He retired and moved back to Chester County in 1991. He started gardening and helping his neighbors with their crops. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend and neighbor. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and helping his neighbors. He was member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and loved his Lord, and gospel music.
He is survived by two sons, Mike (Lisa) Russell and Joe Russell, both of Henderson; six grandchildren, Marilyn Russell, Matthew Russell, Michelle Russell, Joey Jr. Russell, Caleb Russell and Haylee Russell. great-grandchildren, Matthew McDaniel, Olivia Cantway, Ari Russell, Leona Russell, Madelyn Kaylor, Grace Kaylor, Aiden Russell, Adelyn Russell, Emalyn Russell and Easton Russell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Russell; a son, Butch Russell; two sisters, Peggy Jean Phillips and Mamie Nell Morain; six brothers, Raymond J. Russell, Tillman T. Russell, Roy Russell, Gilbert R. Russell, James E. Russell, Max P. Russell; and his grandparents, Jeff and Lou Russell.
