Henderson Police Department officers involved in shooting placed on administrative leave

Following the officer-involved shooting that happened in Bethel Springs, McNairy County on Monday, Oct. 12, the Henderson Police Department officers that were involved, Kyle Carter and Danielle Cook, are on administrative leave “pending the outcome of the investigation which could be lengthy,” said HPD Chief of Police Gary Davidson. “We are waiting on forensic results.”
HPD did not release which officer fired the weapon.
Tuesday, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released that the individual who was driving the vehicle, Anthony Jones, was a 24-year-old black male.
The report from TBI says that at 1:14 a.m. that day, a call from a citizen about a possibly impaired driver caused the Henderson Police Department to force a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 45 in Chester County.
The authorities determined later in the investigation that the vehicle was driven by Jones.
HPD reportedly pursued Jones who, at times, drove over 100 miles per hour and eventually crashed the vehicle in the 5700 block of Highway 45 in Bethel Springs.
According to the report from TBI, “He then exited the vehicle and portrayed, with actions and statements, to have a firearm. Two Henderson officers gave verbal commands to Jones, which he disregarded. Officers attempted to subdue Jones with a electroshock weapon, which proved to be ineffective. The situation escalated further, resulting in one of the officers firing two shots from a service weapon, striking Jones. Despite lifesaving efforts at the scene by officers and EMS, Jones later died at a hospital in Corinth, Mississippi. A firearm was not recovered at the scene.”
Law enforcement officers were not injured during the incident according to TBI.
The case remains under investigation by TBI. They note that the bureau acts solely as fact-finders in its cases and does not determine whether the actions of an officer were justified in these types of matters. That decision rests solely with the District Attorney General requesting TBI’s involvement.
Tim Crowe, HPD Assistant Chief, stated “this is an ongoing investigation that is being conducted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Any questions pertaining to the investigation must be directed to them.”
