Henderson remembers 9-11

Firemen, police officers and other first responders do their job daily while putting their lives at risk to serve their communities. However, so many of those working in New York on September 11, 2001 did not know that was going to be their last day. That day, 19 years ago from last Friday, is what the United States remembers as one of the most devastating events in the nation’s history. Four planes were hijacked by the terrorist group known as al-Qaeda and crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. On Friday Sept. 11, 2020, local first responders from the Henderson Fire Department, Henderson Police Department and also the Chester County Fire Department gathered at HPD to remember the fallen heroes and other victims of Sept. 11, 2001 along with the rest of the nation. Pictured is Lieutenant David Novak of H.P.D. along with Chaplain Gary Roeder as Novak tolls a bell to honor the 343 New York City firemen who died in action that day. In total, 2,977 lives were lost from the tragedy. H.F.D. Fire Chief Greg Lipford hopes to have a remembrance ceremony annually with local first responders and the community to honor the fallen.
