Janie Marie Smith Stewart, 74, of Henderson passed away Sept. 18, 2022 at Baptist Health in New Albany, Ind.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Allen Brown officiating.
Burial followed in Chester County Memory Gardens. The family received friends at Crook Avenue from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
She was born Nov. 13, 1947 in Jackson, the daughter of the late J.P. and Nola Mae Middleton Smith. She graduated from Chester County High School in 1966. She worked as a waitress and in manufacturing. She married Donald Stewart, and they made their home at Jacks Creek. They moved to Indiana and worked as a florist and managed a Dollar General Store. Donald died in 2015.
Her passions were working in flowers, reading and traveling. She was a member of the Unity Baptist Church at Jacks Creek.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Stewart of Georgetown, Ind., and Eric Jason (Alicia) Stewart of New Albany, Ind.; a daughter, Christy Timberlake of New Salisbury, Ind.; one grandchild, Lauren Timberlake; a stepson, Todd Stewart of Henderson; one stepdaughter, Lee Ann Austin of Henderson; and two sisters, Dorothy Janes of Jackson and Margie Shade of Louisville, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James Donald Stewart in 2015.
