Barbara Jean Holmes Crowell, 68, of Enville, departed this life on June 6, 2021. Funeral services were held at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson’s Crook Avenue Chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, with Bro. Keith Carlson officiating. Burial was in Milledgeville Cemetery. The family request that any memorials be made to charity of choice or be made to the Enville United Methodist Church. The family extends a special thanks to Adamsville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Volunteer Hospice for exceptional care.
She was born on Aug. 11, 1952 in Memphis to the late Clyde Elbert Holmes and Sue Canaday Holmes Poff.
She was a member of the Horn Lake, Miss., Chapter of Rainbow Girls, attaining the position of worthy matron. She graduated from Horn Lake High School in 1970 and soon thereafter met her husband Jerry Crowell. She was active in community affairs, serving as President and Vice-president of Enville Ruritan Club, Enville Community Club and was an active member of the Enville United Methodist Church.
She worked in the Hardin County School System for a number of years as secretary, teacher’s aide and substitute teacher. She later worked for Enville Fertilizer as a secretary for 10 years. The hardest but most rewarding job was raising three children while “holding the fort down” as a trucker’s wife.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Crowell; son, Jeremy Crowell; two daughters, Jennifer (Tom) Hollingsworth and Jessica Culpepper all of Enville; four grandchildren, Brittany Tomlin of Jackson, Mercedes Tomlin, Tamera Hollingsworth and Aiden Culpepper, all of Enville; and mother, Sue (Jay) Poff of Hernando, Miss.
She was preceded in death by her father; a sister, Peggy Holmes Whitehorn; and grandparents, Lucille and Harold Tenry and Fattie and Sid Holmes.
