JOHN ‘BUCK’ BURKHEAD Obituary – Nov. 30, 1934 – Aug. 26, 2020

John Franklin “Buck” Burkhead, 85, of Henderson passed away Aug. 26, 2020 at the Henderson Health & Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Clint Burkhead officiating. Burial followed in Chester County Memory Gardens. The family received friends at Crook Avenue from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday.
He was born Nov. 30, 1934 in the Montezuma area of Chester County, the son of the late John Andrew and Lula Bell Waldrop Burkhead. He attended Chester County schools. He married Shirley Austin in 1963. They made their home in Henderson.
He worked and retired with TDOT out of the Jackson District Office, painting highway lines and installing road signage.
He was an avid hunter and raised hunting dogs. He was a good “storyteller” and a wonderful grandfather.
He is survived by three granddaughters, Lauren, Kaitlyn, and Emily Colbert; a son-in-law, Tim Colbert of Henderson; three brothers, Tony (Pat) Burkhead, Dub Burkhead and Kenneth (Teresa) Burkhead all of Henderson and a special friend, Peggy Lard of Henderson.      
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Shirley Austin Burkhead, Aug. 30, 2012; his only daughter, Teresa Burkhead Colbert in 2010; and three sisters, Bonnie Davis, Alice Faye Miller and Ruby Burkhead.
