Judy Irene Mainord Malone, 71, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital under hospice care after a long battle with chronic kidney disease.
A short, simple graveside service for family and friends was held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. at East Laurel Baptist Church Cemetery. Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home was in charge of the services. The family requests any memorials to be given to Jackson-Madison County Library, Chester County Library, your church or any worthy charity.
Judy was born on Dec. 10, 1948, in Jackson, daughter of Alvin Mainord and Verna Smith Mainord. She, widely known by her nickname “Sonny,” was reared in the Harts Bridge Community of Madison County and was parented by her sister, Beverly Stewart, and aunt, Verca Mainord, after the death of her parents. She graduated from Beech Bluff High School and attended Union University.
She married Johnny Malone, an editor of the Jackson Sun, on April 17, 1971, at East Laurel Baptist Church. She was a stay-at-home mom to their two sons, Johnny Malone, Jr. and William Jason Malone.
Besides her family, her passions were photography, family history research, animal rescue and conversing with her many Facebook friends.
She was reared in the Southern Baptist Church, became a Catholic and, finally, became a strong believer in all God-fearing faiths demonstrating love and brotherhood.
She and Johnny maintained residences in Jackson and on the ancestral family farm in the Sweetlips Community of Chester County. For the past 16 years, she has played a motherly role to her granddaughter, Alexus Victoria “Lexie” Malone, daughter of son Jason.
She is survived by Johnny, her devoted husband of almost 49 years; sons, Johnny, Jr. (Amy) and William Jason; granddaughter; nieces, Diane Gaugh of Jackson and Wanda Mainord of the Hart’s Bridge Community; and cousins and other family members. She and husband Johnny were also close to his brother Danny Malone and his wife Mary Linda of Collierville and their two daughters, Cyndi Malone and Melanie Allgyer, and their children (Judy’s nieces).
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Beverly Stewart; and brothers, Harold Mainord and Ray Mainord.
