Kendall Patterson was recently promoted to editor at the Chester County Independent. A Spring 2019 University of Mississippi Journalism/Print graduate, Patterson was hired as a staff writer at the Independent in July of 2019. Since that time, he can frequently be seen about town, notepad and camera in tow.
“Kendall has done an outstanding job during his nearly two years at the Independent,” said Publisher Scott Whaley. “He has embedded himself in this community and can be found at sporting events, government meetings and other local events.”
Patterson says he enjoys the work, and the time spent getting to know the community. “I’ve really come to enjoy covering the local students whether it be for athletics, theatre or other extracurricular activities or achievements they may have going on. My hope is that I am helping their families save those moments and memories. The students really have really affected my heart by yelling out to me when they see me in the most enthusiastic manner and expressing how they like having me around. Chester County residents have opened their arms to me in multiple ways,” he continued. “Over the span of time that I’ve been here, I can say that there are multiple individuals and families I can always rely on.”
In his spare time, Patterson enjoys photography, digital media related projects, poetry and watching and keeping up with all things Marvel and DC Comics. However, in addition to his personal hobbies, he spends time each day increasing the newspaper’s social media presence on both Facebook and Instagram and searching for new content to interest more readers.
He hopes that as he reaches out, Henderson and Chester County will feel confident in doing the same. “If there are any ways I can help serve the community in reporting and sharing news of the county, feel free to email me at kendall@magicvalleypublishing.com.”
Whaley said, “I have made countless hires in the last forty years and Kendall ranks right up there as one of the best.”
