Kevin Faulkner wins vacant first district seat

At the September Chester County Commission meeting, a vote was held to fill the district one seat previously occupied by the deceased Larry Blackstock.
Two Chester County residents showed interest in the spot – Jim Vest and Kevin Faulkner.
Faulkner won the spot in a 10-6 vote.
Johnny Garner, Jerry Lowe, Al McKinnon, Jackie Butler, Barry Smith and Diane Jordan voted for Vest.
Andrea Holland, Ann Moore, Russell Clayton, Jerry Emerson, Sandra Highers, Joseph Melaro, Tim Crowe, Mike Alexander, Terry Bell and Todd Lewis voted for Faulkner.
The 911 Board approached the commission to build a new building for Chester County 911 Emergency Communications on property near the Henderson Fire Department. Tim Crowe, 911 Board member stated they have outgrown their current location and are in need of a new space.
The commission approved for the 911 Board to move forward with the process.
The construction of the new 911 facility will be fully funded by 911. No taxpayer money will be used toward the building.
During the meeting, Chester County Mayor Barry Hutcherson was re-elected as the commisssion’s Chairman and Barry Smith was re-elected as the chairman pro tem.
Discussing/considering county COVID Policy / Time off was delayed.
Commissioners Ann Moore and Joseph Melaro both gave updates on the feedback the community provided regarding how the county should spend the COVID during their town hall meetings.
The county is stepping back from planning how to spend the money for now until further guidelines are released.
Chester County Fire Chief David Harwell also announced the county fire department was awarded a $362,000 grant last Wednesday. The funds will be used to increase department personnel, training and equipment.
