Chester County High School Boys Basketball Head Coach Kody Howard recently turned in his resignation in order to be the assistant coach of the men’s basketball team at Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kansas.
Howard saw this as his chance to move up in his basketball coaching career and work alongside his friend, Jake Williams, former Head Coach at University of South Carolina-Salkehatchie and current Head Coach at Dodge City.
“It’s an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. One of my best friends is the head coach,” he said. “This could be my only chance to coach at this level, and when you add being able to coach with one of my best friends, I knew it was the place I needed to be.”
While at Chester County, Howard’s season was 4-24.
Howard’s resignation makes Chester County look for a fourth coach in four years. Jason Shelton left to become athletic director at Jackson Christian after the 2017-18 season, and Drew Stutts left to become head coach at Freed-Hardeman University after his 2018-19 season.
Howard is grateful for the time he has had at CCHS and all the people who impacted him while he for the school.
One of his favorite memories with the team was after the Eagles defeated Baldwyn, Mississippi at Dyersburg during the Charles Cowles Classic.
“My favorite memory is beating Baldwyn, Mississippi at Dyersburg High School on a buzzer beater. Then walking in the locker room and starting to jump around and celebrate with all of my guys… That feeling is irreplaceable and I’ll never forget it.”
Howard said he is still going to be rooting for the Eagles from afar and has faith that they will be successful with their new coach.
