Finishing up the 2024 regular season, the (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions completed the sweep of the Cumberland (Tenn.) University Phoenix with a game-one victory 8-1 before busting out the brooms with a 9-5 win.
Game 1: FHU – 8 CU – 1
Chloe Carter’s leadoff double paid off in the top of the second before moving to third after a single from Kiersten Mesler. A double-steal was only partially successful with Carter able to score despite the trail runner being caught stealing to give the Lady Lions (27-16, 14-9 MSC) a 1-0 lead.
The big inning for the Lady Lions was the top of the fourth when four hits and two Cumberland (20-17, 8-15 MSC) errors occurred to score five runs. Kiersten Perry drove in FHU’s second run before an error provided the third run an opportunity to score. Natalie Gilmore then laced a single to left-center to drive home Perry. Alivia Eggleston then continued her massive weekend with a two-run double to give FHU a 6-0 edge.
A sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the fifth allowed the Phoenix to score their first run. Olivia White put more separation when her single drove home the seventh run before Perry’s sacrifice fly gave FHU the 8-1 victory.
Brittany Adair (7-4) earned the victory after 4 1/3 innings of effort where she fanned eight Phoenix and allowed one run. Chloe Winters shut the door with 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief.
Chloe Carter was the tough out, going a perfect 4-4 from the dish and scored two runs. Karli Quillin and Olivia White each tallied three base knocks, while Natalie Gilmore and Kiesten Mesler each recording two. Alivia Eggleston and Kiersten Perry each drove in a team-high two runs.
Game 2: FHU – 9 CU – 5
The Lady Lions (28-16, 15-9 MSC) opened up with a three-run first inning after Natalie Gilmore’s single drove home Karli Quillin. Brinley Cousar drove in a run with a single before Olivia White was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to put FHU up 3-0.
Cumberland (20-18, 8-16 MSC) answered strongly by scoring five runs across five innings while holing the Lady Lions scoreless for four innings to take a 5-3 lead into the top of the sixth.
It was then that FHU connected for five base hits to score four runs and reclaim the lead. With two outs, the top of the order passed the bat with five consecutive singles with the knock from Alivia Eggleston scoring one runs before Brooklyn Jimmerson’s hit drove home two. Chloe Carter finished the big inning with a single to drive in one run and give the Lady Lions a 7-5 lead.
Eggleston and Jimmerson struck again in the top of the second by driving in the final two FHU runs to finish the scoring at 9-5 in favor of the Lady Lions.

Katelyn Bradford (3-3) had the victory in five innings before Kylee Brown (1) shut the door with two innings of a one-hit shutout where she struck out two to earn her first save of the year.
Alivia Eggleston and Natalie Gilmore each recorded three hits while Karli Quillin had two base knocks. Brooklyn Jimmerson drove home a team-high three runs.
