The daughters of Joe and Lois Armour would like to thank everyone who made the dedication of the Joe Armour Memorial Bridge a reality.
The bridge that spans Lake Placid was supposed to be dedicated to Daddy following his sudden death in 1969, but the dedication somehow fell through the cracks. Through perseverance and help from some special people, our family finally made it happen. Our dad has been gone for over 52 years, but he left his mark on the State Park through his vision of a lighted softball field, a park restaurant, and a footbridge across Lake Placid. All of these improvements came to fruition.
We want to thank State Senator Page Walley, who was the catalyst for making the dedication a reality. Thanks also goes to Chickasaw State Park Manager Ron Elder, who went above and beyond to make the day a perfect one. The Senator, the park manager, and State Parks Director of Operations Mike Robertson listened to us and made our dream come true. We will forever be in your debt.
Thank you to all who attended the dedication and reception. Daddy would have loved seeing Sagamore Lodge filled with family, friends, and current and former park staff.
To the people of Chester County: please visit Chickasaw State Park soon and see the plaque that memorializes our father. He was a wonderful man and Superintendent who dedicated his life to the Park he loved so well.
