The Chester County Library Board met on Thursday, January 19, 2023 in the conference room of the library.
In old business, the library board discussed the upcoming expansion as well as the building fundraiser that was completed in December 2022. Architect Sammy West presented four preliminary floor plans for the library to consider. The floor plans were discussed, and it was decided that each board member, the library director, and staff would record their comments on the plans and have the director send these to the architect for review. The board would then meet in a special called meeting in February to go over and select a floor plan to present to the county commission for approval. The December building fund fundraiser raised a total of $4,118.95. The library received 14 $100 donations, one $1,000 donation, and several other monetary donations equaling $2,765.25. The book sale raised $1,353.70.
The library is still accepting cash or check donations to put towards the building fund. Donations of $100-$999 will receive a leaf plaque on a new donor tree in the library. Donations of $1,000 will receive their own plaque. Donations can be made in honor or memory of someone.
In new business the board discussed grant applications, the library budget for budget year 2023-2024, and reviewed their policies and procedures. Updates on several grant applications such as the Eisner Graphic Novel Growth Grant, the Rural Arts Project Support Grant, Dollar General Grant, and Libraries Transforming Communities Grant. The board also agreed it was time to start applying for a $100,000 construction grant. This is a competitive grant available for libraries in the state of Tennessee.
The budget for the upcoming fiscal year was discussed briefly and a committee was formed that will have a special called meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, February 2 in the library. The public is welcome to attend. The budget committee will then present at the February special called meeting their recommendations.
Finally the Chester County Library board completed their annual review of their policies and procedures. The updated policies are available on the website at chestercountylibrary.net.
The director gave a report on upcoming events and technology training. The treasurer and regional library gave reports and the meeting was called to a close.
