Lorna Jean Steed Thompson, 69, of Henderson passed away July 18, 2022 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Chris Kitchen and Keith Brown officiating.
Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis. The family received friends at Crook Avenue Saturday from 9-11 a.m. service time.
She was born Dec. 10, 1952 in Jackson, the daughter of the late Billy Burnett ‘Bill’ and Betty Jo Scott Steed. She grew up in Henderson and was a 1970 graduate of Chester County High School. She attended Jackson State Community College for a time.
She married Tony Thompson on March 11, 1972. They made their home in Henderson in the Sugar Creek Subdivision for the last 43 years. On Feb. 24, 1975, they welcomed their daughter, Aletha – their pride and joy.
She worked for the Southwest Human Resources for a time but was primarily a stay-at-home wife, mother and Mimmy.
She loved being a “Cheerleader Mom” and loved being a “Mimmy” to Abbie and Tyler, her precious grandchildren.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson. She enjoyed flower gardening and working in her yard.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Tony Thompson of Henderson; a daughter, Aletha (Bobby) Glover of Jackson; two grandchildren, Abigail Rainey Glover and Tyler Scott Glover; one sister, Dianne Chappell of Henderson; and also three special friends, Betty Record, Doris Siler and Martha Evelyn Cawthon.
