Mary Kelley Harris passed away on Sept. 23, 2022. Her life, death and 96th birthday will be celebrated by family and friends with Graveside Services at Sweetlips Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, with Jerry McCorkle officiating.
She was born on Sept. 30, 1926, to parents Alvin Kelley and Crickett Bailey Kelley.
She grew up in the Sweetlips community.
During the 1940s and early 1950s, she worked at area garment factories. Soon after WWII, she married returning Navy veteran John D. Harris, Jr. In the late 1950s, they moved to the Malesus community in Madison County, where they made their home for 45 years.
She was a member of the Malesus Methodist Church, where she and her husband were once active in youth programs. Soon after retiring as a hairdresser, she returned to Henderson with John to spend their final years.
She is survived by a son, John Dennis Harris.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and all of her siblings, Edna Mitchell, Era Mae Talbert, Ora Lee Barham, Rachel Seeley, Joe Kelley and James Kelley.
