Along with the new year comes new opportunities and new classes for students at Chester County High School.
Students in the Greenhouse Management class were greeted by baby chickens on January 12. There are now five Ameraucanas, five White Leghorns, and seven Golden Comets that will be cared for in the classroom until they are old enough and it is warm enough to send them outside to the chicken coop, donated by Co-Op, just outside of the Garden Shed. Students are very excited about the opportunity to care for chickens, and Ms. Crouse, the teacher for the Greenhouse class, has experienced an influx of interest and visitors for her program.
Students in dual enrollment classes will be met by the new semester this week, and several students, including myself, will have an extra workload from either Jackson State or Freed-Hardeman. Senior Addison Summars has found her balance between all of her work and extracurricular activities.
“I took dual enrollment to prepare myself for college work, considering it is a college workload. Along with four dual enrollment classes a semester, I am in the clinical internship program at my high school and I also play tennis for an extracurricular. To balance my work, I have to make sure and get my work done on time and not procrastinate. I get one thing done at a time, so I don’t stress myself out.”
Students in the Clinical Internship class are finishing their first rotation and beginning their second. The class consists of students that have worked through all of the health science courses. They get the opportunity to go to practice and watch professionals in a real healthcare setting. I got the opportunity to visit Redden Total Therapy and witness firsthand their process. I learned very much, and I know my peers learned much at their respective sites as well. We are all thankful for the opportunities we got and hope to learn much more in the second half of the year!
As the second semester starts up, basketball season is beginning to wind down. There are only seven games left, including Tuesday’s home matchup against Riverside. The Adamsville games on January 15 were truly exciting affairs, as the Eagles bested both Cardinal teams. The girls put on a show against Adamsville, winning by a score of 30-63. Afterward, the boys won by a score of 56-63 after trailing at halftime. The wins come at much-needed times for both teams as both try to make a final end-of-season push. Most of the remaining games are at home and the order by Governor Bill Lee restricting spectators lifts after the Riverside game on Tuesday. Hopefully, fans will be permitted to attend in-person to support these red-hot teams, but should the order be extended, fans can still watch via the Streaming Eagle Media YouTube channel.
