We are having a marvelous week of learning here at East Chester Elementary School! As a Leader in Me school, we use the 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey to help us be the best version of ourselves. The last Friday of each month, we focus on a different habit. January’s habit is Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood. We are learning it is important to listen more than we speak.
Kindergarteners are working hard! The students are continuing to work on consonant blends. In math the students are learning about teen numbers. This week the students are focusing on the number 12. The students are beginning their unit on the states of matter such as liquid, solid and gas.
In first grade so much learning is happening! The students are working on answering questions from a text and writing to inform. In math students are learning about place value. They are learning about light and sound in science.
Second grade is working hard and learning so many new things! The students are continuing to learn how to write an informative paragraph by using the text “Surviving the Cold.” This non-fiction text describes how animals survive in an arctic climate. The students are also continuing with their Ancient Asia unit. They are reading folktales from India, China and Japan. In math the students are reviewing adding and subtracting three-digit numbers with regrouping. Our third graders are learning and growing so much! The students are continuing to read about Colonial America. In math the students are beginning their unit on fractions!
As always, it is a great day to be at East Chester Elementary School!
