We are having another fantastic week of learning here at East Chester Elementary School! On Monday, we celebrated our love for one another with Valentine’s Day celebrations.
We are deep into our adventures with Humphrey, the hamster, as the whole school reads “The World According to Humphrey”! The students are enjoying seeing Humphrey in the office window each morning and all of the hamster drawings along the hallways.
Kindergarteners are working hard! This week, the students are beginning their unit on R-controlled vowels: ar, er, ir, ur and or. They are also reviewing punctuation. In math the students are continuing their unit on teen numbers with a focus on 16. They have now added all of the numbers in their Rainbow Math rainbow, so now the focus is on speed. Kindergarteners are beginning their unit on American symbols and famous presidents.
So much learning is taking place in first grade! The students are reading Fairy Tales in reading class. They are learning the characteristics of a fairy tale. The students are also working on parts of speech: nouns, verbs and adjectives. In math they are learning how to find 10 more, 10 less, one more and one less.
Second graders are learning so much! The students are learning about the ancient Olympic games in Greece. There may even be some Olympic games of their own taking place this week! In math the students are working on subtracting with regrouping.
Our third graders are learning and growing more and more each day! The students are finishing up their unit on Colonial America and taking their unit assessment this week. In math the students are learning how to compare fractions using less than, greater than and equal to symbols.
Just a reminder that there will be no school on Feb. 18 or Feb. 21. Students will return to school on Feb. 22. Our yearbook pre-sale begins on Feb. 28.
