Welcome back! It is hard to believe we have already been in school for almost four weeks. It has been an amazing start to the school year. There are so many fun things happening around East Chester, and we are so excited to share it with you!
In kindergarten they are working hard on learning their letters and letter sounds. Along with that they are working on writing the letters correctly as well as writing their names with capital letters. In math they are studying numbers and will be focusing on the number two. They will begin a study on the five senses as well. A lot of fun learning is happening!
First grade has been just as busy. They finished their review on writing letters correctly and are now moving on to writing complete sentences. In math they have been reviewing how to add and subtract within 10. First graders are doing a study on what it takes to be a responsible citizen. They are working hard in their reading curriculum. First grade is also learning about fables and determining what the moral of each fable is. So much learning is happening!
In second grade they are working hard in their reading curriculum as well. They will be reading “Cat Bandit” and “The Fisherman and His Wife.” With these two books, they will be reading and answering questions as well as comparing and contrasting. In math they have been learning how to do “Number Talks.” They are almost finished with basic addition and subtraction within 30. Second graders are working hard to build fluency and accuracy with their math facts.
Third grade is off to a terrific start this year as well! In reading they will begin the first story in their reading curriculum, “The Wind in the Willows.” They will also begin reading “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp.” In math they will be studying strategies and properties used to add and subtract. Third graders are working hard on building their multiplication fact fluency. What a wonderful start to the year!
Here are a few important dates to remember. On Aug. 26, our third graders will be hosting the first Leader in Me program of the school year. Please keep an eye on the East Chester PTO page for further information about how to view their program.
So many GREAT things are happening at East Chester, and we are looking forward to a wonderful year!
