Mr. Bob’s Animal Show visited East Chester last week and entertained both students and teachers alike.

Last week, we got a visit from Mr. Bob’s Animal Show, and it was amazing! Mr. Bob brought many neat animals, including a hedgehog, a boa constrictor, an owl, a bat and several more! The kids really enjoyed themselves, and the teachers did, too!
In kindergarten they are continuing their work on letters! They are also working on rhyming words. In math they are going to take a break with their study of numbers and spend time reviewing numbers zero-five. They are going to practice decomposing numbers zero-five as well. They are setting such a strong foundation in writing, and those kindergarten kids are working so hard on making their letters neat and correctly! Way to go!
In first grade they are reading about Gran and her adventurous trips! They are working on vowel teams and learning about split vowel digraphs! In writing they are learning how to write opinion paragraphs! In math they will be starting to learn more strategies to help them subtract. In the knowledge portion of their day, they are still learning about similar stories from different lands. So far, they have read stories like “Cinderella,” “Billy Beg,” and “Tom Thumb.” In science they are learning about the Earth’s surface and looking at the three different types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.
In second grade they will be starting a new book about “Bedtime Tales.” They will review long vowel spellings and write a retell on “The Milk.” In math they will be learning different ways to write numbers as well as using place value blocks to show numbers in different ways. They are continuing their study on Tall Tales and will read “Casey Jones.” They are studying landforms in social studies and will focus on islands, valleys, plains and plateaus. In writing they are working on comparing and contrasting, and this week, they will compare and contrast “John Henry” and “Casey Jones.”
In third grade they are reading “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Part 1.” They will also read “The Wild Wood” from “The Wind in the Willows.” They will be discussing different themes presented in these read-a-louds. They are working on spelling words with the “ou” and “ow” sound. In math they are continuing their learning with different strategies to add and subtract. They are continuing to practice estimating, using sums to add and estimating to add! They are working so hard!
