Maggie in Mrs. Diane’s class at East Chester Elementary recently reached one million words in Accelerated Reader!

Congratulations to Maggie for reaching one million words in Accelerated Reader! Maggie is a third grade student in Mrs. Diane’s class. She is the daughter of Ashley and Charlie Smith. We are so proud of her! 
Oct 24- 28 is Red Ribbon week! Here are the dress up days:
Monday: Red Ribbon week kick off – wear read
Tuesday: Voting for my Future to be Drug Free – wear red, white and blue
Wednesday: It takes a TEAM to Stay Drug Free – wear your favorite teams gear
Thursday: Don’t Get Mixed Up in Drugs – wear your craziest mixed up clothes
Friday: Give Drugs the Boot – wear western gear
There is also a lot of fun learning happening at East Chester! Let’s take a look.
In kindergarten they will be learning about the letter R and U, as well as reviewing all letters they have learned so far. They will be starting a unit on syllables. In math they are working on numbers! They are going to be focusing on the number six. They are also working on 2D and 3D shapes. In science they are learning about nighttime animals, focusing on bats. In writing they are working on writing in a complete sentence. 
In first grade they are working on opinion and persuasive writing. They are learning about Early World Civilization, focusing on the people of Mesopotamia. They have talked about the pyramids and different gods and goddesses. In reading they are still working on building their fluency when reading. They are finishing up the story “Gran’s Trips” and will be starting a story about “Fables.” They have also been learning about nouns, proper nouns, verbs and adjectives. In math they are also learning about 2D and 3D shapes. 
In second grade they are working on ordering and comparing numbers. They will be putting them in order from least to greatest as well as greatest to least. They will be using symbols <, > and = to show how the numbers are related. In reading they are reading bedtime tales that are folktales. They are learning how to determine the lessons of stories, how to answer questions and how to retell stories. Second graders will be working on contractions this week as well. 
In third grade they are reading the story, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Part 4.” Third graders are also reading “Dolce Domum, Part 2” from “The Wind in the Willows.” In spelling they are working on spelling contractions. In math third graders are using strategies and propers to add and subtract. They will be adding three or more numbers, using partial difference to subtract and using regrouping to subtract.
