It was a fantastic week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School as we sprung our way into March!
Kindergarten had a great week. The students enjoyed celebrating Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’s birthday. We read Dr. Seuss stories and did lots of fun activities to go with them. Thank you to all the guests who came to read to the students. Do not forget to practice sight words as part of homework each night.
We had a great week in first grade! Last week, we finished up our unit on American Independence. We dressed up as Dr. Seuss book characters and read lots of Dr. Seuss books for Read Across America. In math we finished learning to tell time to the hour and half hour.
In second grade we had so much fun participating in Read Across America Week. On Monday, we read Dr. Seuss books, had Dr. Seuss math centers and wrote about our favorite Dr. Seuss book. In science last week, we learned about animals and their characteristics. The students also enjoyed learning about measurement in math. We measured items around the room and even made our own rulers.
In third grade we are working hard to get ready for fourth grade! We took the end-of-year CASE test last week and are finishing up this week. We need to be sure to get enough sleep at night, eat breakfast and come to school ready to show what we have learned this year. Spring Break is March 23-27. We are excited, but we really have to stay focused on our learning until break. In reading we learned more about ecology, which is both very interesting and very important! In math we worked with fractions. Please check homework each night, review it and sign it. All help at home with our math skills is really appreciated!
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Amelia Page, whose favorite book is “Mama” and whose favorite food is a cheese pizza. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Katie Tedford. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is Chinese food. We appreciate all that she does for our school as one of our para professionals.
Read Across America: Continue reading books! Our road continues to fill up with cars and buses as we travel across America. The last day for this promotion is Friday, March 20.
Spring Pictures: Individual spring pictures, class group pictures and kindergarten cap and gown pictures will be taken on Wednesday, March 18. Picture Previews/Orders will be March 30-April 9.
Spring Family Night is at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19! It is sure to be a great time! More details will be sent home soon!
Please collect Box Tops! Each Box Top equals 10 cents for our school. This is an EASY way for us to earn money for JCES! Our goal is to raise $700. Everyone can help us reach this goal!
