It was another fantastic week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School!
Kindergarten had an awesome week. Students got to meet all of their new friends, as all students started coming on Wednesday. We got off to a great start learning rules and procedures for school and the classroom. Students also learned about the color and color word red and circle shape. We are practicing good hygiene habits like washing our hands and covering our nose and mouth when we sneeze or cough. We are learning about using manners and being nice to others. We look forward to a fantastic school year!
Last week in first grade, we continued to review our letters and letter sounds. We also enjoyed reading several back to school books and doing several back to school activities. We reviewed our numbers and number words. We had a great week of learning! We look forward to another great week next week.
In second grade last week, we continued getting more familiar with rules and procedures. We enjoyed getting reacquainted with our friends and getting to know our new friends better. In reading we heard about more fairy tales, tall tales and fables. We learned about the morals and lessons learned in these tales. In math we reviewed addition and working more on subtraction. We want to become fluent with simple addition and subtraction, so practice at home with flash cards or on iPads would help in that area. We appreciate any help at home with extra practice on math and reading also.
In third grade we are proud of our students working so hard to complete their first enCase benchmark assessment! In reading we started our first unit in CKLA on classic tales. We are going to read a classic, Wind in the Willows. We also will read about a not so brave knight named Sir Gus. Students will learn to describe characters in the story. In math, we learned addition strategies. In Social Studies we learned about our world. We will learn about how Earth is divided into hemispheres.
Notes from the Principal: This new school year brings new challenges, but we are determined to continue to give our students our absolute best! We look forward to working with you as we watch your child grow and learn. Please take time to read all notes, letters, forms, etc., that are sent home with your child. Each document is important; some require your signature.
