We had a great week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School! Read on to hear about the amazing things we doing here!
Kindergarten had a great week back. Some of the skills we focused on this week included blending and reading words, letter sounds and writing letters, sight words, writing numbers, counting and hexagon shape. Do not forget that Dress Like a Farmer Day is this Friday, Oct. 30. A big thanks to everyone who helped our school meet its PSO membership goal.
We had a wonderful week of learning. We learned about the circulatory system and the nervous system. We started skills unit 2. We read stories titled “Gran’s Trips” and “The Pet.” We reviewed nouns and other grammar skills. We began learning about the season of fall and wrote about what we did on fall break. In math, we worked on subtraction word problems to find how many more and how many fewer. We look forward to another great week.
In second grade we completed our study of Cycles in Nature. We learned about the life cycles of flowering plants, trees and animals. We also discussed what animals do to adapt to the cold winter months, which we will be facing before long. Our next unit in reading is going to be Westward Expansion, which will be a very interesting study of some of the history of our country. In math we started adding and subtracting two-digit numbers. Please continue to check our folders to see that our homework is done correctly, sign it and return it the next day. This work should not take very long to complete but is a great way for you to see what we are learning and help us practice those skills. Thanks for all your support!
In third grade we learned all about our solar system. Last week we compared and contrasted the inner and outer planets. Also, why is Pluto not considered a planet? Our third graders can tell you that! We worked on multiplication and division facts. Once again, this is a MAJOR standard for third grade. Please, practice these facts with your child. We can not wait to see the awesome solar system projects on Friday!
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Gunner Reed whose favorite books are books about Star Wars and who favorite food is pork chops. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Terri Edgin. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is shrimp. We appreciate all that she does as one of our secretaries.
The Chester County School System is now recognized as a critical infrastructure. This policy now requires students in third grade and above to wear masks.
