We had such a great week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School! Read on to hear about the fun and challenging learning opportunities our students are having as we prepare for end of the year testing!
Kindergarten had a great week. Students worked hard on being excellent readers and writers. Skills we practiced included reading words with double consonants and tricky words in our CKLA reading program. In math students practiced counting by fives, subtracting fluently and identifying the names and values of coins. Progress reports will be sent home this Thursday, April 22.
First graders enjoyed the read-alouds this week that have involved Fairy Tales. They are familiar fairy tales but with a little twist. Students enjoyed comparing and contrasting the read-aloud fairy tales to the traditional fairy tales. Math involved recognizing the penny, nickel, dime and quarter, as well as counting groups of like coins. The boys and girls also wrote an opinion paper on their favorite candy.
In second grade we worked hard to review and remember all the skills we have learned this year to be ready for testing! We are ready to “Show What We Know” on TCAP next week and on our iReady test coming up after that. We need to be getting plenty of rest and get to school by 7:50 a.m. so that we are here and ready to go to work.
We were really busy in third grade getting ready for TCAP tests that start April 21 by practicing and reviewing many of the skills covered this year. Additionally, in math we finished up a short unit on measuring mass and begin learning about two-dimensional shapes this week. As test time approaches, we ask that the kiddos be here if at all possible ready for the day. We thank you for all you do to help them be their best!
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Jarred Marrin, who says his favorite books are all books and his favorite food is Italian food. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Brandi Welch. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is steak! We appreciate all that she does as our guidance counselor!
