It has been a fantastic week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School! We have worked hard and learned so much!
Kindergarten had another great week. Students are continuing to work on sentence writing, reading words with blends, sight words, counting by ones and 10s and using smaller shapes to make bigger shapes. Please continue to check your child’s folder each night and also practice sight words as part of homework.
We have had a great week in first grade! We continued learning about astronomy by reading about the moon. We learned about the moon phases and created them using Oreos. In skills we continued reading fables. We learned the sound /aw/ as in straw and reviewed nouns and verbs. In math we continued learning various strategies for subtracting within 20. Overall, we had a wonderful week of learning!
In second grade we have been learning about the War of 1812 in reading class. We have been really excited to see how the events unfold. We are also working on life skills in math by solving problems involving money. We are glad to be back on our regular routine. We are also looking forward to celebrating the 100th Day of School very soon!
Third grade has had a wonderful week. In language arts we have been learning about the Native Americans of the Northeast and Southeast. We were even able to spend some time comparing and contrasting these two groups. In math we have begun exploring fractions and making our own fraction strips.
Our first student spotlight of the week goes to Josie McClellan, whose favorite food is pizza and favorite book is “Pete the Cat.” Our second student spotlight of the week goes to Grayson Johnson. whose favorite food is pizza and favorite books are books about Spider-Man. We are proud to have these students shine brightly at our school!
