It was such a wonderful week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School.
Kindergarten finished February sight words and will be getting new words. Please practice these weekly. We are so excited about Read Across America Week and our special guest readers. We learned all about Native Americans and the different tribes. In math we continued practicing adding fluently. Practice memorizing doubles with them. This will help so much. Thanks for all that you do.
First graders worked hard during Read-Aloud time in reading, learning about the Revolutionary War and our Founding Fathers. They learned that not only was George Washington our first president, but he also led our Continental Army in the Revolutionary War. Also, first graders had fun learning about telling time to the hour and half hour in math.
In second grade we started measurements. We created our own rulers and measured objects around the room and objects in our desks. We learned about sound and light in science. In reading we learned to compare and contrast nonfiction and fictional texts.
In third grade we started reading books by Dr. Seuss to connect to our reading standards for theme and plot. This was a great way to show our students that you can have FUN reading. We began learning about measurements, mass of objects and liquid volume. Science will start back up, and we will explore the different states of matter and their properties.
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Cooper Essary, whose favorite books are books about Spider-Man and whose favorite food is a bologna sandwich. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Dorothy Daniel. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is tacos. We appreciate all that she does for our school as one of our para professionals.
Please collect Box Tops! Each Box Top equals 10 cents for our school. This is an EASY way for us to earn money for JCES! Our goal is to raise $700. Everyone can help us reach this goal!
Looking Ahead:
March 18 – Spring Picture Day
March 19 – Report Card Day/ Parent Night
March 23-27 – Spring Break
April 10 – Good Friday (No School)
