Welcome to Deanburg news! I hope everyone has enjoyed the last week of cooler temperatures.
Continue to remember the ones on our prayer list: Kristen Carlton Jones, Tim Landers, Brianna Landers, Gary Hyatt, Carolyn Brasfield, Jim Ruth, Eloise Murley, Samantha Mosier, Woodie Deming, Betty Quarles, Ms. June Davis and our friends Johnny Roach and his son Johnny, Jr. Please remember to pray for our shut-ins and nursing home residents and visit them when you can. Please remember our military, our law enforcement and first responder, and do not forget the ones that have lost loved ones.
Haunted Hollow started last Friday night. I hope all who attended had a great time! Two more weekends to get in on the terror – Oct. 18-19 and Oct. 25-26. Ticket sales begin at 7 p.m. and end at midnight. Price is $8. Good food will be sold as always. Please put it on your calendar! You do not want to miss this year.
Our community birthdays this week are Tony Harris on Oct. 16 and Cora Talbot on Oct. 22.
Barbara Cain Tutor went to her heavenly home Oct. 8. She was always a good friend to all. I have fond memories from my childhood and teenager years of her taking us kids to movies, wrestling in Jackson, and lots of places. She was seven years older than me, and she could drive and loved it. She has enjoyed her motorcycles the last several years. I will miss my dear friend! Bobbie (her daughter), Claude (her brother) and the rest of the family, you are in our prayers!
Our Deanburg story this week comes from my little brother, Ron Deming. “I had a great childhood and spent most of my summers at Chickasaw because Daddy worked there. Deanburg School closed the spring before the fall when I would have started. I remember Mom took me there for my 1962 preschool picture, and I also remember going to fall festival. My best memories are my experiences with childhood friends Denver Hearn, Charlie and Joe Roby, Phyllis Hearn and Richie Davis. It is so sad that kids today do not have the freedom to have those type of relationships and experiences.” Thanks, Ron. That is right! Kids back then could go off and play all day, and the parents felt they were safe. Come on, folks. These stories are great! Please send me your memories.
I have a surprise fall treat for those of us who watch our diets for one reason or another – Creamy Pecan Pralines!
You will need one cup pecans (toasted), five tablespoons unsalted butter (divided), six tablespoons light cream (or heavy cream), one-third cup Trim Healthy Mama Gentle Sweet (or your own sweetener), one-fourth teaspoon vanilla and a pinch of salt. Combine four tablespoons of butter with the sweetener and cream over medium heat. Stir until sweetener is dissolved. Add the vanilla. Cook until it is a deep color (right before burning). Remove from the heat and immediately add the other one tablespoon of butter. Stir until smooth. Add the salt and toasted pecans. Drop by spoonfuls onto wax paper. Refrigerate until firm. Enjoy with no guilt!
Our devotion this week: A Morsel of Kindness, from Max Lucado – “Leo Tolstoy, the great Russian writer, tells of the time he was walking down the street and passed a beggar. Tolstoy reached into his pocket to give the beggar some money, but his pocket was empty. Tolstoy turned to the man and said, ‘I’m sorry, my brother, but I have nothing to give.’ The beggar brightened and said, ‘You have given me more than I asked for – you have called me brother.’ …To the beloved, a word of affection is a morsel, but to the love-starved, a work of affection can be a feast. 1 John 3:17, Suppose someone has enough to live and sees a brother or sister in need, but does not help. Then God’s love is not living in that person.”
