Well, looks like we had some early winter weather Monday night. Record breaking! It may be all over by the time you read this, and I hope it is. I hope everyone kept warm and safe.
Please remember the ones on our prayer list: Kristen Carlton Jones (so happy for your good report), Tim Landers, Brianna Landers, Gary Hyatt, Carolyn Brasfield, Jim Ruth, Eloise Murley, Samantha Mosier, Woodie Deming, Betty Quarles, Ms. June Davis, Johnny Roach, his son Johnny, Jr. and Joyce Stewart. Remember to pray for our shut-ins and nursing home folks. Also, pray for our military, our law enforcement and first responders, and do not forget the ones that have lost loved ones. Pray for the homeless to find shelter. I always think of them in the winter weather.
We have a few birthdays this week: Loretta Howell will celebrate on Nov. 13, Peter Romero on Nov. 14, and Jason Haynie on Nov. 16. You are older than yesterday but younger than tomorrow! But I know you all are young at heart!
Also, Loretta and Jerry Howell will celebrate their anniversary on Nov. 17! I hope you have many more happy, healthy years! “Always knew you two had something special.”
I looked back to this week in last year’s news and found this devotion. It is worth repeating.

It has been a very hard year for my family. If it was not for our faith in God, I do not know how we would have survived our great loss of Legina, our daughter, in August of last year. I know there are so many that have lost loved ones and several that lost children, which is the most devastating thing to go through. My thoughts and prayers are for you too.

“I went to Deanburg in approximately 2000 to help Orban and Carolyn Goff move their furniture from North Carolina. I ended up renting from their daughter, Gina, one of my best friends who is like my sister. I loved it there, and everyone was happy and loving. I watched the Goff’s turn their ‘farm’ into a great looking piece of property, and I actually helped in the set-up. Prayers and peace be with the Goff’s. Awesome people!”
Jane Austen fans, I thought you might be interested in the book, Jane & the Unpleasantness at Scargrove Manor, by Stephanie Barron. Acting as a “recently-discovered journal” of Jane, the novel describes a visit to a rich friend and a murder during the country house party. The book gives an excellent depiction of the pattern of life and the limitations on women at that time. Jane cannot go out alone, speak to anyone without an introduction, write to a man or travel more than a few miles, yet she still manages to get about, visit her numerous family members, talk to people and uncover the truth. For those who have enjoyed the works of Jane Austen, this series of historical mysteries is a pleasant re-creation of that time and that voice. (found on Refdesk.com)
