Hello from Enville! I hope you all are having a great week. The weather is still nice, but the temperatures are going back up a little each day. August is gone, and September has arrived, which means fall is almost here. Some have already put up their fall decorations. It is getting time, I guess.
Monday, Sept. 5, is Labor Day. The last holiday of the summer. Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. It has always been a tradition in my family not to wear white after Labor Day. Why you ask? Wearing white represented that you could afford to get out of the city and vacation elsewhere when summer ended. Since Labor Day typically represents the end of summer, a “rule” was established that you should not wear white after Labor Day if you did not have the money to take fall and winter vacations. A little tidbit for you according to https://www.bhg.com>traditions. I hope everyone has a fun and safe Labor Day weekend. There will be a lot of folks on the river, boating, camping, grilling and just spending time with family, so whatever you are doing, make it a memorable time!
The Enville Community Club and the Enville Volunteer Fire Department wants to thank everyone who came out and made their Enville Wild Goose Fundraiser a success. It was a great time for everyone. Again, THANK YOU! The next meeting of the community club will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the community center. A potluck meal is enjoyed by all. We welcome new members!
Happy Birthday wishes go to Stan O’Neal, Gerald Russom and Brenda Essary on Sept. 2, Steven Grisham and Larry Lambert on Sept. 4 and Mason Weeks on Sept. 7. Happy Anniversary to Jerry and Nancy Freeman on Sept. 8. We hope you all enjoy your special day!
On our prayer list this week is Deb Finley, Lisa Bishop, Agnes Smith, Linda and Robert Johnson, Mary Lee Guyon, Janice and Danny Keen, Jack and Tera O’Neal, Harold and Janice Maness, Nicole Thompson, Amanda Johnson, Ashley Pugh, Shirley Hampton, Della Mixon, Rick Ooley, Larry Lambert, Jimmy Robertson, Ann Pugh, Pat Cates, Emily Freeman, Tim Harris, Tim and Tabitha Hampton, Florence Stublaski, those who have lost loved ones, our firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, healthcare workers, military, schools and school board and, as always, each other.
If you want to rent the community center, call Pat at 688-5125, or if you have something to share in this column, call me at 608-3058.
