with Gloria Holiday

Hello to everyone! It is truly a blessing to be with my family and friends one more time. Thank you for taking the time to read our hometown paper. For this is the day the Lord has made, let us REJOICE and be GLAD in it!
I need to apologize to everyone who called me and left a voice mail on my phone for last week. Sorry to say that I did not know my voice mail was not working until someone called me and said, “You did not call me back; I left you a voice mail.” When I checked, there was no voice mail showing. AT&T just repaired for me. I had so many unheard messages on my phone. Here is one that should have been in last week’s paper. It is from a daughter to her mother. There is nothing like a love for your mother, and it is a blessing to have your mother with you. Oh, how I miss my mother! This young lady turned 84 years young on Saturday, Nov. 5. Ms. Sylvia Harris, your daughter Julie wants to say, “Thank you for being one of the best moms and for everything you have done for others while on this earth for 84 years.” We pray that you had a wonderful blessed birthday. Happy Belated Birthday from the City of Henderson! We love you and pray the Lord will bless you with many more!
November is a very special month not only for me but for you and so many more. Why? As you well know, this is the month that we honor veterans around the world. Veterans fought for our freedom and risked their lives whether or not some realize or appreciate it. Without the service of veterans, we would not have the freedoms we have today. On Nov. 10, the USMC will celebrate 247 years of service. Yes! I am a proud Marine that serviced MY country 21 years from 1973-94. Not only did I serve but so did my husband Pastor Frank Holiday, Sr. (USMC/Army retired) and my brothers Mr. Larry “Henry” Brown (USMC retired) and Mr. Dennis Brown (USMC). It just did not stop with the Marines; we had other siblings to join the ranks – Mr. Dexter Brown (US Army) and my sister Mrs. Audrain (Brown) Dunn. My husband and I are proud to say that we have children who have also served – Mrs. Maria Holiday-Chenelo (LT. US Air Force) and our son Captain Frank Holiday, Jr. (US Army). Yes! We are PROUD to be Americans and to serve for all people in the United States of America.
To all who are Veterans in the USA/around the World, thank you for your many sacrifices and for putting your lives in danger to keep our country free. To every wife, husband, son, daughter, mother and father, you have made many sacrifices as well. So many times you are forgotten. The City of Henderson also thanks you for your love and understanding when your loved one is not at home for you!
I hope you exercised your 26th Amendment right; if you are a citizen of the U.S.A. and are 18 years old, you have the right to vote. If you did not vote, please do not complain about what is going on in the U.S.A.! Nov. 8 was Election Day!
Remember the place to be at 11 a.m. this Friday, Nov. 11, is downtown at Henderson City Hall where we will observe Veterans Day. Sorry to say my husband and I will not be able to attend. We are still celebrating my 68th birthday on Oct. 26! You can tell me all about it!
The City would like to say Happy Belated Birthday to Ms. Amie Crook! We know you had a wonderful day, and we pray the Lord will bless you with many more!
On the prayer list this week: all of the bereaved families that have lost a loved one. Remember to pray for our United States of America.
