Greetings to the people of Chester County everywhere. For this is a new week and a new year, and I give thanks to the Lord for being with you in your home, on your job or wherever you find time to read the paper. It is just great to be part of your life.
I hope you are enjoying the New Year. How was your week? I hope and pray it was a great one. If your week was not good for whatever reason, just remember you have the power to turn it around and make it better. Some of you wanted to know why I did not have my article in the paper. The reason why is because I took some time out of my busy schedule to spend time with my family. All of my children were home for the holidays, except for our son, Frank. He is still in Germany. And you know what? It felt good not to stress or hurry up to meet deadlines. We are always in the fast lane, and not worrying about anything for a bit felt great. Some of you need to try it sometime.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’”
On Jan. 19, the annual event to celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in the Williams Auditorium, located at 634 East Main Street, Henderson. I ask you to ask yourself today, “What have I done for others?” And if you cannot think of anything that you have done for someone, it is time to get busy! So come out and help celebrate a great cause on Jan. 19. The first Community Choir rehearsal for the event will start at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at JP Baptist Church, 420 Fourth St., Henderson.

Why is it important to vote? So we honor those in our military who courageously fight for us and our law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency workers who respond to our needs and defend the peace at home. Those who sacrifice their personal well-being in the name of our safety and security deserve our respect. We also honor the people who struggled for civil rights, women’s suffrage, disability and equal rights and the ideals of justice for all, those who believed diverse voices are essential for our nation’s moral health and community vitality. Freedom needs affirmation. And we set a good example to our children and grandchildren by exercising the right to vote as a symbol of our faith in democracy.

Happy belated Wedding Anniversary to Apostle Frank and Gloria Holiday on Jan 2. We have been married for 44 years. God is good.
Happy birthday to DesShone Dniya Ingram, Jan. 9. Happy Birthday to a very special man who lives here in Henderson, John Cawthon. He will celebrate on Jan. 14. Happy birthday to a beautiful young lady. She is the daughter Sylvia Brown Flower, the wife of Calvin Barham and the mother of Carmen and Justin. Shonterria Barham celebrated her birthday on Jan. 6. We pray everyone will be blessed and have many more birthdays!
On our prayer list this week is our country and the President! Remember to also pray for our children, our teachers and our families, the sick and shut in and especially our men and women who are serving our country.
